    Abstract: A desk top system patient information management system includes an integration interface for an existing healthcare system that provides access to a separate and existing document management system. The integration interface provides modifications (added controls) for a user interface of the healthcare system that allow a user to initiate access to the document management system. The controls include controls for making a query for a document such as a chart or patient notes and for modifying the document. The integration interface also includes objects (methods and data) that perform the access to the document management system based on the information of the user interface and provide the information requested to the interface for viewing and modification.
