    Abstract: A torque control mechanism for an end effector of an autosampler includes a coupler input member configured to receive a motor shaft that includes a stop member, a coupler output member defining an interior region to receive the coupler input member including a stop engagement protrusion extending into the interior region, and a torsion spring having a first end coupled to the coupler input member and a second end coupled to the coupler output member. The stop member and the stop engagement protrusion are arranged to permit relative rotation between the coupler input member and the coupler output member in a first direction corresponding to gripper closing. A controller is configured to determine a coupler deflection based on a difference between an angular position of the motor shaft and an angular position of a gripper mechanism coupled to the coupler output member and control torque using the determination.

    Abstract: Disclosed are methods of controlling a rheometer. Methods include receiving, by a control device, an operating procedure for a test, the operating procedure including a plurality of sequential steps for performing the test and controlling the rheometer according to the operating procedure to perform the test. Controlling includes sequentially presenting, to a user of the rheometer, the plurality of sequential steps, determining whether the operating procedure has been met for a respective sequential step of the plurality of sequential steps for performing the test, and proceeding to a subsequent step of the plurality of sequential steps for performing the test only when the operating procedure has been met for the respective sequential step. Rheological systems, control devices for a rheometer, and computer program products that implement methods of controlling a rheometer are also disclosed.

    Abstract: A device for unsealing a sample pan for a thermal analysis instrument includes a sample pan holder, an actuator element and a punch element. The sample pan holder is configured to secure the sample pan in a fixed position with respect to the sample pan holder. The actuator element is secured to the sample pan holder and is formed of a thermally sensitive material that changes the shape of the actuator element in response to a change in an external temperature to a transition temperature. The punch element is attached to the actuator element and is positioned with respect to the sample pan such that the change in the shape of the actuator element in response to the change in the external temperature moves the punch element to puncture the sealing element to thereby expose the internal volume of the sample pan to an external environment.
