  • Publication number: 20060168194
Abstract: A method, apparatus and computer instructions are provided to improve the push/pull workload management model with intelligent routing to effectively collect data from systems that consist of dynamic sub-systems. The invention improves the push/pull model of the referenced invention with intelligent request routing to solve the above problem. An API is exposed in the workload manager enabling its request router to decline requests to route to idle sub-systems. This allows the monitoring agent to avoid sending a pull request to an idle sub-system. Each sub-system will push the data to the agent as it enters the idle state. The agent caches the data it receives from idle sub-systems and combines it with data it pulls from active and stopped sub-systems.

  • Publication number: 20060130042
Abstract: Methods and systems are provided for conducting maintenance such as software upgrades in components and nodes within a computer network while maintaining the functionality of the computer network in accordance with prescribed performance parameters. A balance is achieved between the rate of performing a desired system upgrade and the necessary performance parameters by empirically determining anticipated system loads and selecting the maximum number of components that can be upgraded simultaneously while meeting the anticipated loads. Provisions are made for the staggering of components through the upgrade process and for the return of components to active service in the computer network in response to unanticipated load spikes. Validation of successful upgrades is also provided.

  • Publication number: 20060123018
Abstract: A method of deploying enterprise applications or updates to data processing systems in a complex data processing environment. The enterprise applications or updates are phase deployed to the target data processing systems. Phased deployment includes the steps of preparing one affected node, quiescing all affected servers in the node, stopping all affected servers in the node, synchronizing the node, delivering the applications or updates, starting all affected servers, reactivating all affected servers, restoring the affected node, and repeating these steps for each affected node one at a time until all targeted data processing systems have been affected.

  • Publication number: 20050210033
Abstract: A system and method for performing a lookup in a second namespace, the lookup being performed from a first namespace, whereby a component performing the lookup is not required to be configured for performing a lookup in the second namespace, the system and method further comprising: parsing a first lookup request for a URL tag, the first lookup request for an object located in the second namespace, the lookup request including a symbolic name corresponding to a target location in the second namespace, the URL tag corresponding to a URL context; searching the URL context for a provider URL corresponding to the symbolic name; and creating a second lookup request, the second lookup comprising the provider URL and the object's name.

  • Publication number: 20050091342
Abstract: An exemplary embodiment of the invention relates to a method, system, and storage medium for governing management of object persistence in a hosting environment. The system includes a host system in communication with a data repository and a plurality of access intent policies stored in the data repository, which define rules for specifying data access and data consistency semantics compatible with variant target back end systems associated with said host system. Client systems are in communication with the host system and receive applications services from the host system. The access intent policies include attributes comprising a readAhead attribute, access types; collection access, and pessimisticUpdateHint attribute. The system also includes a link to at least one of the client systems. The host system provides access to the access intent policies to the client systems over a communications link.

  • Publication number: 20050080838
Abstract: An exemplary embodiment of the invention relates to a method, system, and storage medium for providing context-based dynamic policy assignment in a distributed processing environment. The system comprises: a first resource management host in communication with a client system via a distributed network architecture; at least one application executable by the first resource management host; a dynamic policy assignment system executing on the first resource management host; a plurality of policies stored on the first resource management host; and an application profile associated with the client system. The application profile is received by the first resource management host to receive application hosting services. The application hosting services include executing the application on behalf of the client system.
