    Abstract: The invention provides a pharmaceutical composition for use in human or veterinary medicine which comprises ranitidine or a physiologically acceptable salt thereof, alginic acid or a physiologically acceptable salt thereof, and a carbonate or bicarbonate. The composition preferably comprises 1.25% to 10% w/w ranitidine hydrochloride, 5% to 35% w/w alginic acid, and 2% to 15% w/w sodium bicarbonate and is preferably in the form of a capsule or tablet. The compositions are suitable for the treatment of gastrointestinal disorders and particularly reflux oesophagitis.
