Abstract: A camera device with a dynamic touch screen shutter, and method therefor, are provided. The camera device comprises: a sensor for providing an electronic signal corresponding to an image; a touchscreen having a region for displaying the image and receiving touch input, the region having at least one subregion; and a processor enabled to: display the image in the region; execute a shutter command to store the image in a memory when the touch input is received in the region but not in the at least one subregion when the at least one subregion contains at least one of an icon and a graphical control, the graphical control for controlling the camera device; change displaying of at least one of the icon and the graphical control; and, in response, dynamically change a position of the at least one subregion within the region.

Abstract: A device and method for automatic notification customization is provided. The device includes: a controller; a notification device; and a memory storing: notification data; and identification data, the identification data comprising one or more of: an identifier of the device; and an account identifier identifying an account associated with the device. The controller: alters the notification data using the identification data to generate altered notification data; determines that a notification of an event is to occur at the device; and controls the notification device to provide the altered notification.

Abstract: An apparatus and a method in an electronic device provide for controlling a camera and an infrared illuminator, wherein an image capturing process is initiated to produce image data representing a photographic scene. In response to initiating the image capturing process, an infrared illuminator is activated to illuminate the photographic scene. Reflected infrared light from the photographic scene is measured to produce exposure data. In response to the exposure data, a sensor is exposed and image data from the sensor in the electronic device is stored. The electronic device can be a wireless device. Exposure data can include an aperture size, an exposure duration, a lens position for focusing, and the like. Sensing a reflection of infrared light can indicate the presence of a subject in the photographic scene that can be illuminated. The infrared illuminator can be activated before or during the capturing of image data.

The device also includes an operating system managing access to the memory, processor, network interface and display. The device yet further includes a message transmitting application and a spell checker operable to perform spell checking on text in messages composed within the message transmitting application. Finally, the device includes a retroactive word correction module coupled to the spell checker. The module includes program code enabled to identify both an incorrectly spelled word in a previously transmitted message in the message transmitting application and also a correctly spelled form of the incorrectly spelled word, and to respond to the identifying (A) by locating the incorrectly spelled word in the previously transmitted message and (B) by replacing the located incorrectly spelled word with the correctly spelled form of the incorrectly spelled word.

Abstract: An improved mobile electronic device and method enable the outputting of proposed spelling corrections that are based upon a location of a cursor at or adjacent a character of a text entry. Advantageously, therefore, the proposed spelling corrections that are output in a window on a display can be fewer in number and thus more readily reviewable since some valid spelling corrections may be suppressed from such a window if they do not additionally include a character difference from the potentially misspelled text entry that is relevant to the location of the cursor.
