    Abstract: Systems and methods for air conditioning a building using an energy recovery wheel are provided. An exemplary system includes a rotatable energy recovery wheel configured to rotate successively through a recirculated air stream and a second air stream separate from the recirculated air stream, and a refrigeration circuit configured to circulate a refrigerant through a cooling coil arranged in the recirculated air stream and a condenser arranged in the second air stream. The refrigeration circuit includes a pressure sensor configured to measure a condensing head pressure. The system further includes one or more temperature sensors configured to measure a temperature of the recirculated air stream upstream of the energy recovery wheel and downstream of the energy recovery wheel, and a controller configured to operate the energy recovery wheel and the refrigeration circuit based on the condensing head pressure and the temperatures of the recirculated air stream.

    Abstract: A mobile apparatus and method for monitoring and controlling the detection of stray voltage anomalies is provided. The mobile apparatus is comprised of a detection system unit and an imaging system unit that are configured, respectively, to provide streaming data of electric field measurements and corresponding video image frames of a particular scene being patrolled and examined for anomalies. Data from both the detection system unit and the imagining system unit are synchronized and provided to a video based graphical user interface (VGUI) to enable an operator of the VGUI with a “moving chart” graphical display of electric field strength overlaid on video image frames of a particular location in the scene at the time of the measurement. The VGUI is additionally configured with an audio tone having a pitch that is proportional to the measured electric field strength to alert the operator of a potential anomaly.

    Abstract: A sensor for sensing an electric field includes a movable sensor probe including one or more pair, typically three pair, of electrically conductive electrodes, and may include one or more pair of selectively switchable auxiliary electrodes. The probe is movable and may be mounted on a vehicle or trailer. A processor may process electric field signals from the probe for providing a human perceivable indication of the electric field. The processor may perform a Fast Fourier Transform of the electric field signals to produce an indication of the magnitude of the electric field, and may perform unweighted and/or weighted averaging in relation to processing electric field data, setting a comparison threshold, providing a human perceivable indication, or a combination of the foregoing. A speed at which the sensor probe is moving may be utilized in processing the data.

The data sequence is encoded such that the encoded data sequence comprises a plurality of data elements having assigned priorities. Data packets are generated using the encoded data sequence, where each data packet comprises only data elements of identical priority. The data packets are tagged with a priority descriptor indicating the priority of the data elements contained therein. Also disclosed is a method and apparatus for processing at least one packet. At least one packet is received, where each packet includes a priority descriptor that indicates a priority of at least one data element contained therein. Packets may then be selectively discarded based upon the priority descriptor.

    Abstract: A method and system for recovering from a failure of a processing node in a partitioned shared nothing database processing system are provided. The processing system may include a pair of processing nodes having twin-tailed-connected thereto a storage device. A first processing node of the pair of processing nodes has a first database instance running thereon which accesses a first data partition on the storage device prior to the failure. Upon detection of the failure, access to the first data partition on the storage device is provided to a third, spare processing node through the second processing node of the pair of processing nodes. The third processing node runs a replacement database instance for the first database instance which was running on the first processing node prior to the failure thereof. The replacement database instance accesses the first data partition on the storage device through the second processing node, thereby recovering from the failure of the first processing node.

    Abstract: A fault-tolerant high performance mirrored disk subsystem is described which has an improved disk writing scheme that provides high throughput for random disk writes and at the same time guarantees high performance for disk reads. The subsystem also has an improved recovery mechanism which provides fast recovery in the event that one of the mirrored disks fails and during such recovery provides the same performance as during non-recovery periods.Data blocks or pages which are to be written to disk are temporarily accumulated and sorted (or scheduled) into an order (or schedule) which can be written to disk efficiently, which in a preferred embodiment is in accordance with the physical location on disk at which each such block will be written. This also generally corresponds to an order which is encountered by a writ head during a physical scan of a disk. The disks of a mirrored pair are operated out of phase with each other, so that one will be in read mode while the other is in write mode.
