  • Patent number: 6653919
Abstract: A magnetic closure apparatus for portable computers that utilizes magnetic attraction and repulsion to allow users to open and close the first housing member and second housing member of said portable computer. The first housing member has a computer and a magnetic member disposed at its inward edge. The second housing member has a magnetic apparatus, which comprises a magnetic member disposed at its inward edge corresponding to the position of the magnetic member disposed on the second housing member and a sliding member which interlinks with the magnetic member. The polarity of the magnetic field of the magnetic member disposed on the second housing member is the opposite of the polarity of the magnetic field of the corresponding magnetic member disposed at the first housing member. Moving the sliding member enables the movement of the dual layer magnetic member, thereby allowing the closure and opening of the first housing member and second housing member.

  • Patent number: 6654233
Abstract: A positioning unit is mounted on an electronic device and includes a catch member and a locking member. The catch member defines a gap which has a width that is reducible when the catch member moves from a non-catching position to a catching position and that is expandable when the catch member moves from the catching position to the non-catching position. The locking member has an engaging end extending into the gap. The locking member is operable to move the catch member from the non-catching position to the catching position and from the catching position to an urging position. The engaging end of the locking member engages the catch member when the width of the gap is reduced upon movement of the catch member to the catching position. The engaging end of the locking member disengages from the catch member when the width of the gap is enlarged upon movement of the catch member to the non-catching position.

  • Publication number: 20030210513
Abstract: A portable electronic apparatus for selectively operating in normal mode and tablet mode includes a trigger device that generates a signal and a trigger value after being activated; a processing center that, in response to the signal, retrieves from the portable electronic apparatus a normal value corresponding to normal mode, and compares the normal value and the trigger value to obtain a comparison result; and an executing unit that, according to the comparison result, selectively executes normal mode and tablet mode.

  • Patent number: 6628507
Abstract: A data processing device includes a main body, a display unit, a keyboard unit, and a liquid discharge path. The main body includes a casing and a circuit board. The casing includes an upper case having a top side formed with a tray receiving recess that is confined by an upright peripheral wall. The display and keyboard units are coupled electrically to the main body. The keyboard unit includes a tray and a plurality of keys. The tray includes a bottom wall and a surrounding wall. The liquid discharge path is formed through the surrounding wall and the peripheral wall, and/or through the bottom wall of the tray and the upper and lower cases of the casing, and is adapted to permit discharge of liquid that spills into the tray.

  • Patent number: 6587333
Abstract: A flat panel display apparatus having a tilt/swivel mechanism therein allows a user to adjustably move the display panel in an up-and-down tilt direction and a right-and-left swivel direction along the connecting area. The flat panel display apparatus includes: a flat panel display, a computer, a swivel base, a yoke, a mounting base and a pair of elastic members. The yoke is pivotally secured to the connecting area of the flat panel display. The swivel base is pivotally secured to the flat panel display with the yoke. The swivel base has a first cylinder with two grooves parallel and opposite each other on the outer surface of the first cylinder. The mounting base is located in the computer. The mounting base has a second cylinder, the second cylinder having a cable hole formed at the center of the second cylinder to hold the swivel base and two mounting slots located in the cable hole opposite each other. Each elastic member has a projection to be held in the mounting slot.

  • Publication number: 20030048600
Abstract: A latch unit is mounted on an electronic device having first and second housings. The latch unit includes a hook member for interlocking the first and second housings. The hook member is mounted in the first housing and has opposite first and second engaging ends. The first engaging end projects from the first housing and extends into and releasably engages the second housing upon movement of the hook member to an engaging position when the first housing is positioned at a first transverse position. The second engaging end projects from the first housing and extends into and releasably engages the second housing upon movement of the hook member to the engaging position when the first housing is positioned at a second transverse position.
