  • Patent number: 4865714
Abstract: An electrophoretic gel cooled cell including a gel supporting surface. The cell includes members for holding gels against the supporting surface such that gels of either of two dimensions may be used with the cell. A reservoir adapted to hold a cooling medium shares a common wall with the supporting surface to cool the gel retained by the members. The reservoir has a large opening which may be closed by a cover for easy insertion and removal of the cooling medium from the reservoir. A venting valve in the reservoir cover vents gas in the reservoir to atmosphere and closes when the cover is in an inverted position to prevent condensate leakage through the vent.

  • Patent number: 4855088
Abstract: A device for generating a plurality of gas bubbles in a liquid. The device includes a conduit adapted to carry the liquid. A first gas chamber is formed near the conduit and an orifice proximate a side wall of the conduit defines a passageway between the first gas chamber and the conduit. A valve member is adapted to seat against and close the orifice. The device may include a second gas chamber and a diaphragm responsive to gas pressure in the second gas chamber. A conduit connecting the first and second chambers may include a variable vent for controlling the size and number of gas bubbles injected into the liquid flowing in the conduit.

  • Patent number: 4454939
Abstract: Apparatus for transporting elongated sample holders in a sample holder storage compartment past an operating station at which sample tubes contained in the sample holders may be removed and then returned to the sample holders. First and second parallel conveyors on opposite sides of the operating station drive the holders toward and away from the operating station. Lateral drive means engage the holders in longitudinal stop positions at opposite ends of the conveyors and drive them laterally between the conveyors to lateral stop positions, one of the holders during lateral movement being driven into and away from an operative position at the operating station. Encoded label means are displayed on each sample holder for indicating the incremental spacing between the sample tubes carried in the sample holder.
