    Abstract: A transmitting system and a method of transmitting digital broadcast signal are disclosed. The method of transmitting digital broadcasting signal in a transmitter includes multiplexing mobile data and main data, transmitting a transmission frame including the multiplexed mobile and main data, wherein a parade of data group is transmitted during slots, wherein each slot includes specified number of mobile data packets, a first scalable number of mobile data packets, and a second scalable number of main data packets, wherein the data group including a plurality of regions and the fifth region of the plurality of regions includes the first scalable number of mobile data packets, wherein the data group is assigned to one of the slots in such a manner that slots of consecutive slot number carry data groups of inconsecutive group number.

The method for transmitting a broadcast signal includes encoding mobile data for forward error correction (FEC) to build Reed-Solomon (RS) frames, dividing the built RS frames into a number of RS frame portions, dividing one of the RS frame portions into Serially Concatenated Convolutional Code (SCCC) blocks, mapping the SCCC blocks including the convolution-coded data to mobile data blocks according to a SCCC block mode which identifies relationship between the mobile data blocks and the SCCC blocks, forming a data group including the mobile data blocks, forming mobile data packets including data in the data group and, multiplexing a specified number of the mobile data packets, a first scalable number of the mobile data packets, and a second scalable number of main data packets.

The method of transmitting a broadcast signal includes forming a data group including a specified number of mobile data packets and a scalable number of mobile data packets, transmitting a broadcast signal including the data group during slot. The data group includes signaling data includes a protocol version field indicating whether or not the scalable number of mobile data packets exist in the slot. Also, the data group includes known data sequences inserted a predetermined area in the data group. The method of receiving a broadcast signal includes receiving a broadcast signal including the data group, detecting the known data sequence from the predetermined area in the data group, for equalizing channel of mobile data in the data group and decoding the signaling information in the data group.

Herein, the known data are spotted in the interleaved data.

    Abstract: A transmitting system, a receiving system, and a method of processing broadcast signals are disclosed. Herein, the transmitting system includes an RS frame encoder, a block processor, a group formatter, and a trellis encoding module. The RS frame encoder performs error correction encoding on an RS frame payload including mobile service data so as to form an RS frame, divides the RS frame into a plurality of portions, and outputs the divided RS frame portions. The block processor performs one of ½-rate encoding and ¼-rate encoding on each bit of the mobile service data included in each portion. The group formatter maps a portion including symbols of the ¼-rate encoded mobile service data and symbols of the ½-rate encoded mobile service data to a corresponding region of a data group. And, the trellis encoding module performs trellis encoding on the symbols of the ¼-rate encoded mobile service data and the symbols of the ½-rate encoded mobile service data of the data group.
