  • Patent number: 7321610
Abstract: In signal detection system and method implemented to reduce the effects of interference in multi-user detection systems, a receiver defines a frame of symbols containing at least one window based upon a number of user signals contained in a received signal r(t). A symbol amplitude of a single-user in the multi-user system is approximated over the window of the frame based on a number of reflected signal paths of the received user signal. A perturbative correction value is calculated based upon a correlation matrix. An estimation of the symbol amplitude of the single-user signal is calculated over one or a number of windows of the frame. The single-user signal is detected when the symbol amplitudes of the entire signal within the frame has been calculated. To reduce the number of interfering users in a multicell CDMA system, the symbol codes are modified to include an even code and an odd code.

  • Patent number: 7319686
Abstract: A method of timing in a multi-cell system requiring synchronization of frames in transmission is provided. Transceivers of a wired data interface between a central controller and multiple base stations are synchronized to a frame timing clock up to a difference in propagation delays between the central controller and multiple base stations. The propagation delays are considered as constants, are measured, and are stored in each base station. A unique word is regularly inserted in the data transmitted by the central controller, at a fixed interval. When this unique word is detected by the base station within a fixed period of the frame timing clock, a frame signal delay is initiated at the next rising edge of each frame timing clock. This frame signal delay is equal to the period of the frame timing clock minus the propagation delay. At the end of the frame delay, the frame data is transmitted, and all frames are simultaneously transmitted from different base stations.

  • Patent number: 6873646
Abstract: A single-user detection method operates to reduce the effects of interference in multi-user detection systems. Based upon a number of received user codes, a receiver defines a frame of symbols containing at least one window. A symbol amplitude of a single-user in a multi-user system is approximated over the window of the frame and a perturbative correction value is calculated based upon a correlation or decorrelation matrix, which is determined by the delay spread of the signals. An estimation of the symbol amplitude of the single-user signal is calculated over one or a number of windows of the frame. The single-user signal is detected when the symbol amplitudes of the entire signal within the frame has been calculated.

  • Patent number: 6647246
Abstract: This invention pertains in general to a method of synchronizing remote stations in a communications system and, more particularly, to a method for measuring delay between two remote stations in a communications system. A method of measuring delay between a first station and a second station in different localities in a communications system that includes transmitting a first signal from the first station to the second station and simultaneously resetting a counting clock in the first station, receiving a delayed first signal at the second station, transmitting the delayed first signal to the first station, receiving a further delayed first signal at the first station and simultaneously stopping the counting clock, calculating the number of counts elapsed in the counting clock between the resetting and the stopping of the counting clock, wherein each count of the counting clock equals the period of the counting clock, and multiplying the number of counts with the period of the counting clock.

  • Patent number: 6058101
Abstract: A synchronization system and method for obtaining frame, carrier, and sampling synchronization of an input OFDM modulated digital signal having a pseudoperiodic second symbol. The system includes an apparatus for obtaining frame synchronization, and the apparatus includes an envelope detector to detect the first symbol of the input signal, and a differentiator connected to the envelope detector to detect the second symbol. The differentiator includes a first filter having a transfer function H(z)=(1+z.sup.-1) and a second filter having a transfer function H.sub.p (z)=(1-z.sup.-n/2 +z.sup.-n -z.sup.-3n/2), where n equals to a number of samples in the input signal. Synchronization of the carrier frequency offset is obtained by first obtaining the fractional carrier frequency offset, and then obtaining the integral carrier frequency offset through a matched filtering process. Sampling frequency synchronization is obtained through the matched filtering process for determining integral carrier frequency offset.

  • Patent number: 5729124
Abstract: A method of frequency estimation is disclosed which uses a Fast Walsh Transform (FWT) in place of a conventional Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) technique. The inventive method is based on a linear relationship between the unknown signal frequency and the sequency of a Walsh function which corresponds to the sample of the FWT with maximum absolute value. The resulting discrete data is smoothed mathematically by a sequency interpolation process, which improves resolution and accuracy. The disclosed FWT method provides greater speed and simpler implementation than the prior FFT technique, since the FWT method follows one simple repetitive data flow pattern (additions only), while the FFT technique follows more complicated butterfly patterns (multiplications and additions).
