  • Patent number: 6258230
Abstract: The present invention relates to a non-enzymatic disposable uric acid detecting electrode strip which directly detects the concentration of uric acid in liquid sample under a low operation voltage of below 400 mV and pH value from 7.0 to 10.0. When the electrode strip is applied to detect the concentration of uric acid in human body, it avoids interference signals caused from any other components in blood and will not be interfered by ascorbic acid unless the concentration of ascorbic acid increases to 15 times of its normal concentration in blood. Not only serum but also whole-blood can be taken as a sample for detecting the uric acid concentration thereof. The uric acid detecting electrode strip is modified by a water soluble redox electron mediator. The electrode strip is easy to carry and can be easily made, particularly mass-produced.

  • Patent number: 5605833
Abstract: A process is disclosed for the preparation of D-lactic acid from lactate racemic mixture. It comprises the steps of: (i) hydrolysis of an alkyl lactate racemic mixture in the presence of an esterase as a catalyst to hydrolyze L-alkyl lactate; (ii) separation of unhydrolyzed D-alkyl lactate with an organic solvent, such as n-hexane or a high alcohol; and (iii) chemical hydrolysis of the separated portion obtained from step (ii) with a base to obtain D-lactic acid. The esterase can be selected from the group consisting of pig pancreas lipase of the trade name Sigma L-3126, wheat germ lipase of the trade name Sigma L-3001, Candida cyclindracea lipase of the trade name Sigma L-1754, Rhizopus lipase of the trade name Serva 27930, Mucor javanicus lipase of the trade name Fluca 62304, Aspergillus niger lipase of the trade name Fluca 62301, Rhizopus arrhizus lipase of the trade name Boehringer Mannherin 414590, and Candida cylindracea cholesterol esterase of the trade name Boehringer Mannherin 396800.

  • Patent number: 5403929
Abstract: Zinc salts of Cephalosporin C are dissolved in a solution of halides of univalent metals at a temperature of 0.degree.-25.degree. C. and the pH is adjusted to 1-2 prior to being ion exchanged with a sodium form cation-exchange resin packed in a column and being eluted with a water miscible solvent. The column can be further eluted with a solution of halides of univalent metals.
