  • Publication number: 20060171280
Abstract: A defect management method applied in an optical disc drive for managing defect information of an optical disc is disclosed. The optical disc drive saves a plurality of defect tables comprising at least a first defect table and a second defect table. The first defect table records a plurality of first defect entries and the second defect table records a plurality of second defect entries. The method includes appending an adaptive defect entry comprising a new defect information corresponding to a new defect into a new defect table, a data structure of the adaptive defect entry conforming to a data structure of at least one of the defect entries recorded in the defect tables; and merging the adaptive defect entries into one of the defect tables saved in the optical disc drive when a condition is met.

  • Publication number: 20060028949
Abstract: A method for performing blank detection on an optical storage disc includes buffering first information read by an optical storage device from the optical storage disc to generate buffered data, and checking corresponding data of an Error Correction Code (ECC) block in the buffered data to determine if the ECC block is a blank ECC block.

  • Publication number: 20060013095
Abstract: A defect detecting apparatus and a defect detecting method performs highly efficient and reliable defect detection over an optical disk. According to the defect detecting method, defect information is obtained during data recording. The necessity of data verification and the range of verification-demanding area are determined according to the defect information. The defect address is found efficiently by performing a data verification procedure over the verification-demanding area. The defect detecting method according to the present invention conducts data verification on defect-prone addresses instead performing a global examination for address areas recorded with data. Thereby, the defect detecting efficiency is enhanced.

  • Publication number: 20050221866
Abstract: An emergency notification method. The emergency notification method can be implemented in a mobile communication device capable of wireless connection to a telecommunication system providing telephone and messaging service. The mobile communication device comprises an initiation device and a speaker. The initiation device is activated to automatically implement the following emergency notification process comprising the following steps. The speaker is activated to emit a high volume ring tone. At least a predetermined parameter is first identified to determine whether to send a predetermined distress message through the telecommunication system. If the mobile communication device is directed to send the predetermined distress message, the predetermined distress message is transmitted through the telecommunication system.

  • Publication number: 20040228240
Abstract: A method for recording a plurality of data sets onto an optical storage medium by utilizing a temporary storage device in an optical storage system. The optical storage medium contains a plurality of data blocks and a plurality of spare data blocks. Each data block is utilized for recording a data set, and each spare data block is utilized for substituting for a defective data block to record the corresponding data set. The method comprises: storing a plurality of data sets corresponding to a plurality of defective data blocks in the memory into the temporary storage device; re-arranging a sequence of the plurality of data sets corresponding to the plurality of defective data blocks in the temporary storage device according to a sorting process; and recording the re-arranged data sets in the temporary storage device into the spare data blocks of the optical storage medium.
