  • Patent number: 6948058
Abstract: This specification discloses a method and device for playing multimedia files in a semi-power on state of a computer. A program is provided in the BIOS so that POST (Power On Self Test) is not performed after the power is turned on. The program directly initializes multimedia chips or chipsets. A micro controller is provided as the interface for the CPU to control to execute the commands given by its user. Finally, the processed result is presented by a player. Through the simple method, the user can make the computer play multimedia files directly, achieving the goal of a computer with the home electronics functions.

  • Patent number: 6795916
Abstract: A novel boot method for a system, whose system BIOS has been disabled by erroneous microcode input as the result of inadvertent miscoding or malicious intent. The keyboard BIOS of the system is utilized in the present invention. If the CPU of the computer crashes during a microcode update, the system notes the error (setting a number of flags) and restarts the computer. The restarted system will not perform the microcode update, but goes straight to the normal BIOS activation, avoiding the crash problem. To fix the problem, users need only request the correct microcode from CPU retailers to amend the errors in the BIOS.

  • Publication number: 20030233157
Abstract: A method of executing shuttle function cooperating with a multimedia program. In the present invention, a wheel mouse with a scroll page function is provided coupled to a computer, wherein an operating system of the computer outputs a first signal when the scroll page function is executed. The multimedia program detects wheel rotation of the mouse when detecting the first signal during execution of the multimedia program. The multimedia program executes the shuttle function to advance or review frames according to wheel motion of the mouse. In addition, the multimedia program executes corresponding operations when detecting other signals from the operating system.

  • Publication number: 20020163590
Abstract: The invention discloses a video signal conversion method, which uses the BIOS to determine whether the purpose that the user turns on the machine is for watching the TV or for usual computer operations before an OS is loaded. When the user wants to watch the TV, the BIOS directly control a Video tuner chip, a video capture chip, a VGA chip to perform video signal tuning, capture and control. Finally, the BIOS drives a display to show the video signals in visible images. Through the disclosed video signal conversion method, the video signal conversion operation of using a computer to watch TV becomes closer to a conventional TV. This does not only simplify the operation procedure but also saves a lot of time in waiting for an OS to be loaded in as in the prior art.
