  • Patent number: 8948187
Abstract: A method for communicating additional network information using a synchronization identifier is presented. A synchronization identifier is defined. The synchronization identifier is used for the purpose of synchronizing communication between a Mobile Station (MS) and a network. In addition, the synchronization identifier is used to define additional functionality in the wireless network. As such, the synchronization identifier may be used to communicate information about wireless services and/or wireless components between the MS and the network.

  • Patent number: 8509801
Abstract: An extended global service redirection message (EGSRDM) is provided within the standards for mobile communications networks, where the EGSRDM supports multiple band class records within the common fields. The base station generates an EGSRDM with multiple band class records, with each band class assigned specific frequencies. When a mobile station (MS) receives the EGSRDM, the MS compares the parameters of the various band classes (frequency, ACCOLC, P_Rev) with those supported by the MS, and generates a list of the band class(es) from those provided within the EGSRDM that are supported by that MS. The MS then selects the first band class within the list and selects a frequency within the selected band class to assign to MS communication. When none of the frequencies within the selected band class is available, the MS selects the next band class within the created list and selects a frequency from the next band class.

  • Patent number: 7907560
Abstract: A communication network includes first and second network entities capable of over-the-air communication. The second network entity receives at least one message communicated over-the-air by the first network entity. The message includes one or more message fields indicating a number of concurrent over-the-air service instances with the second network entity supported by the first network entity. The second network entity limits a number of concurrent over-the-air service instances requested by the second network entity in accordance with the one or more message fields in the message.

  • Patent number: 7809389
Abstract: To communicate in a press-to-talk (PTT) session, a message for requesting a right to talk in the PTT session is sent over a wireless link between a mobile station and a base station system. The message for requesting the right to talk in the PTT session is sent in wireless signaling over the wireless link. An acknowledgment of the wireless signaling carrying the message is received, with the acknowledgment sent by the base station system in response to the control signaling. An indication is provided at the mobile station of the right to talk in response to the acknowledgment.

  • Patent number: 7787413
Abstract: An apparatus, a method, and a computer program are provided for increasing the efficiency of Radio Frequency (RF) resources. Specifically, a modified Resource Release Request Message (RRRM) is utilized. The modified RRRM incorporates several additional fields that allow for the release of multiple service instances at approximately the same time. The simultaneous or near simultaneous release of multiple service instance is more efficient that the traditional RRRM for the release of a single service instance. Therefore, limited RF resources can be better preserved.

  • Patent number: 7460515
Abstract: A packet data service node (PDSN) is formed to establish a connection with a plurality of mobile terminals by way of one or more packet control function cards or devices. A packet control function (PCF) card or device is formed to provide an interface between the packet data domain and wireless domain and further to inform a base station controller/access network controller (BSC/ANC) to block the setup and establishment of any additional communication links in a specified manner until the overload condition ceases to exist. More specifically, the PCF receives loading information from each PDSN to which it is connected and determines a composite loading factor. The PCF transmits the composite loading factor to the BSC/ANC periodically or if the loading factor exceeds a specified threshold and call blocking should be initiated for packet data calls for a select group of mobile terminals.

  • Patent number: 7457321
Abstract: The present invention supports a message protocol on a wireless communication network to setup a shortened slot cycle operation for a mobile station. During wireless, packet-based communication, a mobile station can utilize a shortened slot cycle to increase the frequency a communication channel is monitored by a mobile station while in idle state. While this is advantageous to communication requiring a fast response, it increases power consumption and decreases battery charge time. Under present usage, the shortened slot cycle must be used by all mobile stations connected to the base transceiver whether required or not. To increase efficiency and avoid unnecessary power consumption, the invention allows only those mobile stations that require it to implement the shortened slot cycle. Signaling messages sent from the mobile station to the base station controller will initiate a shortened slot cycle only for that mobile station.

  • Patent number: 7245931
Abstract: A method and system is provided for controlling data transfer using a short data burst mechanism between a mobile station (MS) and a base station (BS). After identifying that a short data burst mechanism is desired to be used for transmitting data between the MS and the BS, the data is transmitted over a common channel used for communication between the MS and the BS without having to establish a communication link between the MS and the BS over a traffic channel.

  • Patent number: 7236764
Abstract: In code division multiple access communication systems, there are three levels for updating locations of dormant mobile stations (MSs) and setting up fast call. In sector and are levels, the dormant MS send a layer 2 message containing a message type and MS identifier to a base transceiver station (BTS). Since the message is associated with the sector where the MS is located, the network is aware of the MS's location from the updated location. The dormant MS sends to the BTS a reconnect message containing a message type and an MS identifier. The MS's dormant to active state transition is initiated by the MS. In the communication network, sub-packet zone ID is broadcasted in the overhead message. The MS reports its location change on R-CSCH and the network with the BSC level control can page the MS within the zone where the MS sends the report.

  • Publication number: 20050122923
Abstract: To communicate in a press-to-talk (PTT) session, a message for requesting a right to talk in the PTT session is sent over a wireless link between a mobile station and a base station system. The message for requesting the right to talk in the PTT session is sent in wireless signaling over the wireless link. An acknowledgment of the wireless signaling carrying the message is received, with the acknowledgment sent by the base station system in response to the control signaling. An indication is provided at the mobile station of the right to talk in response to the acknowledgment.

  • Publication number: 20050060363
Abstract: Operating a cellular wireless communication network to configure a mobile station to support a Multi-Media Service (MMS). Operation includes determining that configuration of the mobile station for the MMS is required. A plurality of components of the cellular wireless communication network are provisioned for configuring the mobile station, the plurality of components of the cellular wireless communication network including an Over-The-Air-Function (OTAF). The mobile station is then located, e.g., serving MSC, BSC, and base station are determined. Then, a wireless communication link with the mobile station via a servicing base station is established. Communications between the OTAF and the mobile station are then established via a combination of a wired path of the cellular wireless communication network and the wireless communication link. The OTAF then communicates with the mobile station to program at least one MMS Uniform Resource Identifier (URI) within the mobile station.
