When parts of controllers do not connect to peripheral devices, the controllers that are not connected are powered off to reduce the power consumption of the system chip.

Accordingly, the detecting unit may enable the first BIOS unit or the second BIOS unit to boot the computer system according to the state of the bus signal.

    Abstract: A detecting device is mounted on a motherboard for detecting a connecting status of an external device. The detecting device includes a control chip, a pull-up element, a jack and a detecting chip. The jack has one or more first-type electrical wires, one or more second-type electrical wires and a third-type electrical wire. The first-type electrical wires are connected to the control chip for receiving and transmitting data. The second-type electrical wires are connected to a first voltage. The third-type electrical wire is connected to a second voltage through the pull-up element. The detecting chip has an I/O pin connected to the third-type electrical wire of the jack. When the external device is not connected to the jack, the third-type electrical wire is maintained at the second voltage. When the external device is connected to the jack, third-type electrical wire is not maintained at the second voltage.

When the second BIOS unit is down, a recovery mechanism of the first boot block is used to overwrite data in the second BIOS unit with a backup file.
