  • Publication number: 20040090580
Abstract: A liquid crystal on silicon (LCOS) panel in single-domain vertical alignment mode. The LCOS includes a front plate, a rear plate, and a liquid crystal layer. The rear plate includes a number of pixel electrodes and the pixel electrodes are grouped in pairs. Every two pairs of pixel electrodes are separated by a groove while the pixel electrodes in each pair are separated by a protrusion. The LCOS panel is filled with the liquid crystal layer, between the front and rear plates, while the liquid crystal molecules in the liquid crystal layer are in vertical alignment mode. By the configuration of the protrusions and grooves among the pixels of the LCOS panel, a single domain is readily formed in every pixel while high contrast ratio, reduced fringe field effect and effect of transverse electric field can be achieved.

  • Publication number: 20030160915
Abstract: The present invention relates to a color filter with mosaic pixel array arrangement. The color filter comprises a plurality of pixel arrays. The pixel array has four sub-pixels. The color of the sub-pixel of the pixel array is identical to that of another sub-pixel of another pixel array adjacent to the pixel array. The sub-pixels with same color form a sub-pixel group so that the area of a single color of the sub-pixel group is increased. Therefore, the adhesion strength between the sub-pixel group and the substrate can be augmented to avoid peeling from the substrate. According to the invention, the yield rate of the product will be raised and the chromaticity will be improved.

  • Publication number: 20030112399
Abstract: A liquid crystal display (LCD) with slant structures is disclosed. The LCD includes a first plate, a second plate opposite to the first plate and a liquid crystal layer between the first plate and the second plate. The first plate further includes a first alignment film over the first plate and the alignment film has an indication direction. The second plate includes a number of pixels. Each of the pixels includes the following from the bottom to the top: a pixel electrode, a reflector, a thin film layer consisting of a number of thin films, and a second alignment film. The thin films are formed by photolithography and the thin film layer and the second alignment film together form at least one slant structure.

  • Publication number: 20020177079
Abstract: A method of manufacturing a bumpy reflector utilizes a process of forming thin film transistors to fabricate bumps simultaneously, thereby reducing the frequency of using photo masks. Additionally, by varying positions, numbers, and widths of the deposition layers, the bumps of different heights and widths are formed, and therefore, the bumpy reflector has a better effect on reflecting light beams. Furthermore, a photosensitive organic layer with a molten characteristic is used to replace a passivation layer and a photoresist layer, which can simplify the fabrication processes of manufacturing a reflector. Consequently, an LCD of good quality and low production cost is manufactured.

  • Publication number: 20020135717
Abstract: The present invention provides a multi-slants reflector structure and its manufacturing method. Such multi-slants reflector structure is formed simultaneously in the same process of forming TFTs. With a diversity of heights and slanting angles, such reflector structure can have incident light reflect from different angles so as to achieve optimal distribution of reflection intensity versus reflection angle. In application of the multi-slants reflector to an LCD, the function of diversified slanting angles can effectively prevent light concentration on one particular direction. In other words, the present invention is capable of reaching creating an evenly reflective right distribution in a wider range of viewing angles without the aid of a diffuser device.

  • Patent number: 6291146
Abstract: The invention provides a method for fabricating reflection-type light diffuser which is a substrate having a plurality of bumpy elements with reflective curved surfaces. Each of the plurality of bumpy elements having a first surface and a second surface, the first angle (&agr; or &thgr;) between the first surface and the substrate is different from the second angle (&bgr; or &phgr;) between the second surface and the substrate. A Multi-Exposure Shift Method along with specially designed masks are proposed for manufacturing the curved reflective elements in the present invention. The invention can also be used in a traditional TFT-LCD, with the diffusive film layer eliminated, as an element between the liquid crystal layer and the active matrix.
