  • Publication number: 20100047127
Abstract: A method and system to consistently and automatically conditioning and delivering a solid-free liquid (filtrate) sample suitable for instrumental analysis is disclosed. A slurry, preferably a slurry produced by a sub-atmospheric pressure chlorate dioxide generating process, is fed through a filter to remove the solid phase and to provide the liquid phase on the downstream side of the filter, where the concentration of at least one dissolved component is determined.
    Type: Application
    Filed: November 2, 2009
    Publication date: February 25, 2010
Inventors: Mario Luis Costa, John Brian Birks, Chunmin Pu, Kui Xu

  • Patent number: 6972121
Abstract: Chlorine dioxide generating processes of the single vessel type which produce chlorine dioxide of high purity are monitored and controlled by a computer using Advanced Control Strategies for steady, stable operation with optimum chemical usage on the basis of a desired chlorine dioxide production rate as the sole input from an operator to the computer program effecting the computer control.
    Type: Grant

  • Publication number: 20040228790
Abstract: Alkali metal chlorite, particularly sodium chlorite, is produced with a level of purity superior to that expected based on the composition of the chlorine dioxide generator off-gas that is used as a raw chemical feed for chlorite manufacture. The off-gas is preferably drawn before it enters the chlorine dioxide absorption tower and is passed through a conditioning stage to then react in a liquid medium to produce an alkali metal chlorite solution from which the unreacted and produced gases are immediately separated.

  • Publication number: 20040071628
Abstract: Chlorine dioxide is produced at high efficiency in a continuous process effected using hydrogen peroxide as the reducing agent in a single vessel generator-evaporator-crystallizer at the boiling point of the reaction medium under sub-atmospheric pressure. The reaction medium is maintained under steady state continuous operation with a residual chlorine concentration while having no residual hydrogen peroxide concentration in the reaction medium.

  • Patent number: 5593653
Abstract: Sodium sesquisulfate produced in crystalline form in a high acidity highly efficient chlorine dioxide generating process is converted by metathesis to crystalline anhydrous neutral sodium sulfate and the acid recovered as a result is recycled to the chlorine dioxide generating step. The metathesis is effected by contacting the crystalline sodium sesquisulfate with aqueous sodium chlorate solution, aqueous sodium chloride solution, aqueous methanol or water alone. The metathesis is effected in such manner as to minimize the additional evaporative load imposed on the chlorine dioxide generating process by the metathesis medium.

  • Patent number: 5399332
Abstract: Solid sodium sesquisulfate is metathesized by water to neutral anhydrous sodium sulfate and to recover the acid values therefrom by employing a dynamic leaching of the solid phase sodium sesquisulfate, to provide an acid medium for recycle to a chlorine dioxide generating process producing the sodium sesquisulfate without significantly increasing the evaporative load on the generator.
