  • Patent number: 5707598
Abstract: A porous material composed of many SiO.sub.4 tetrahedra sheets having interlayer bridges of SiO.sub.2. It has pores having a diameter of 10 .ANG. or above, and possesses the properties of a solid acid formed by the isomorphous substitution of metal atoms for Si of SiO.sub.4 frameworks. It is made by a process including introducing an organic substance into interlayer space of crystals of layered silicates to expand the spacing between crystal layers, as well as forming bridges of SiO.sub.2 therebetween, bringing the intercalated compounds into contact with a metal salt to link metal atoms to the SiO.sub.4 frameworks, and firing the products. The material can withstand a temperature of 800.degree. C., has a pore diameter larger than that of zeolites, etc., and is useful in making an adsorbent or catalyst for molecules having a high molecular weight, such as a catalyst for the catalytic cracking of petroleum.

  • Patent number: 5028351
Abstract: A process for preparing organic smectite applied for thickener, protective colloid, dispersant and binder. The present invention features the process for preparing the organic smectite by mixing smectite incluidng 0 to 20% by weight of interlayer water in the interlayer spaces of said smectite with organic cation-supplying substance selected from at least one of aliphatic alkylamine salts, aromatic amine salts and basic organic compound having pyridine nucleus, and/or basic organic molecule in a mixing ratio of the latter to the former of 10 to 500 milliequivalents per 100 g smectite, and stirring the resulting mixture at a temperature of 5.degree. to 50.degree. C. under an applied pressure of 0.5 to 10 kg/cm.sup.2 to cause a solid-solid reaction.

  • Patent number: 4735987
Abstract: This invention provides a method for the manufacture of a high-expansion type absorbent polymer by first causing an absorbent polymer which is obtained by polymerization of a monomer and is possessed of an alkali salt of acrylic acid as a component of polymer to be cross-linked at the time of azeotropic dehydration thereof with a cross-linking agent possessing two or more functional groups in the presence of an inorganic salt and subsequently drying the cross-linked polymer. By the method of this invention, there can be obtained a high-expansion type absorbent material which absorbs water quickly and forms a gel not viscid but permeable to gas. This absorbent material is highly advantageously used as absorbent for sanitary materials free from leaking water and as a water-retaining agent for agricultural applications hardly causing rotton plant roots.

  • Patent number: 4652436
Abstract: Nitrides and carbides are prepared by intercalating a monomer, a starting material of condensate, or a prepolymer into the interlamellar spaces or the vacant spaces of the crystalline structure of a natural mineral or an inorganic compound to prepare an intercalated compound and baking the intercalated polymer compound at a temperature in the range of 1100.degree.-1700.degree. C. under a nitrogen or reducing atmosphere. The present invention provides a method for readily preparing nitrides and carbides having the increased crystallinity at a low calcination temperature. Whiskers with larger diameters of 2 to 5 .mu.m can be prepared by adding carbon powder to the intercalated compound complex.

  • Patent number: 3950180
Abstract: Novel and inexpensive coloring composites comprising inorganic substances as main component combined with organic basic colored compounds are provided. The inorganic substances are composed of at least one clay mineral selected from the group consisting of zeolite and montmorillonite. The combination of the inorganic substances with the organic basic colored compounds is based on ionic bond, and the combined quantity of the organic basic colored compounds amounts to 0.01-50%. Therefore, the coloring composites have a remarkably improved and stabilized coloring power and are also improved in such properties as thermal resistance, light resistance, acid resistance and the like. In addition, the coloring composites may also change in color according to the value of pH.
