Abstract: Broadly speaking, embodiments of the present techniques provide methods for activating functionality on a client device when the client device is determined by a sensor to be in a particular environment. Advantageously, the client device and sensor(s) do not communicate directly so there is no requirement for a trust relationship to be established therebetween, which may consume power, take time and may require user involvement. The functionality on the client device may instead be activated by a trusted server, and the trust relationship may be established when a user of the client device registers to use the system.

Abstract: The invention provides a network security method and system for use in a communications network, said network comprising a plurality of devices adapted to communicate over the network, at least one device capable of downloading or uploading an application over the network, said system comprises means for data capture on the network by receiving data from a first data source and a second data source; means for analysing comprising means for correlating data arising from network behaviour of at least one device obtained from the first data source and data from a second data source and means for generating a data structure; and based on said analyses of the generated data structure, means for identifying applications on devices which are behaving suspiciously.

Abstract: A method for using a SIM-based firewall to filter and regulate events that may occur in a wireless device or SIM card may include: reading configuration settings; registering with a wireless device, and starting timers; detecting an event; determining whether the event matches criteria for allowance; and, if the event matches, allowing the event. If the event is not allowed, the method may then comprise terminating the event; determining whether to notify the external interface; and potentially transmitting an indication to the external interface. Indications may also be transmitted to a remote system that the event was detected and/or blocked.
