Patent number: 12581046Abstract: Systems and methods for a pathology review station are disclosed. The pathology review station may assist pathologists in analyzing, slicing, or sampling specimens by, in part, projecting an image onto a specimen. The process of projecting an image onto a specimen may include identification of the specimen based on characteristics of the specimen, characteristics of a tray supporting the specimen, or user input. The identified specimen may then be matched with an image obtained by an imager received at the pathology review station. A projected image may then be compiled based on the obtained image, which may include the entire image or features associated with the image. The provided systems and methods may assist a pathologist in, at least, removal of embedded surgical markers and/or determining where to take samples from a specimen.Type: GrantFiled: March 26, 2021Date of Patent: March 17, 2026Assignee: Faxitron Bioptics, LLCInventor: Ciaran Purdy

Patent number: 12514523Abstract: An imaging system that is configured to automatically obtain and provide two and three-dimensional digital images of various types of objects (e.g., tissue specimens, animals, electrical devices, etc.) for use in analysis thereof in a manner free of manual repositioning of the objects between images and free of movement of an electromagnetic radiation source and detector within or relative to a cabinet housing of the system.Type: GrantFiled: November 14, 2023Date of Patent: January 6, 2026Assignee: Faxitron Bioptics, LLCInventors: Ciaran Purdy, Mikhail Viznyuk, Mehmet Akif Baysal
-
Publication number: 20250134477Abstract: A method of generating images of a specimen that includes triggering a source of electromagnetic radiation to emit a beam of electromagnetic radiation along an axis through a tissue specimen and towards an imaging detector, generating at least one image with the received beam at the imaging detector, and superimposing, into or adjacent the at least one image by a system controller, a set of graphical indications that convey portions of a patient's body from which respective portions of the specimen were assumed to have been excised.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 23, 2024Publication date: May 1, 2025Applicant: Faxitron Bioptics, LLCInventors: Ciaran PURDY, Brad JACKSON, Jared MOORE

Publication number: 20240359187Abstract: A specimen holding and positioning apparatus operable to substantially non-movably maintain a specimen (e.g., an excised tissue specimen) in a fixed or stable orientation with respect to the apparatus during imaging operations (e.g., x-ray imaging), transport (e.g., from a surgery room to a pathologist's laboratory), and the like for use in facilitating accurate detection and diagnosis of cancers and/or other abnormalities of the specimen.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 24, 2024Publication date: October 31, 2024Applicant: Faxitron Bioptics, LLCInventors: Ciaran Purdy, Donogh O'Driscoll
-
Publication number: 20240345003Abstract: A method for masking a container in a computerized tomography (CT) image includes receiving a specimen secured in a container on a rotatable support surface and identifying the container. A mask corresponding to the container is determined. The specimen and container are rotated through a plurality of imaging angles. During rotation the specimen and container are imaged to obtain a set of 2D images and a 3D representation of the specimen and of the container are generated. A mask is applied to mask the 3D representation of the container. The resulting the 3D representation of the specimen is displayed.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 19, 2022Publication date: October 17, 2024Applicant: Faxitron Bioptics, LLCInventors: Ciaran PURDY, Baorui REN
