  • Patent number: 10444949
Abstract: A display configuration system enables plant operators to create their own process displays called dashboards during run-time of the plant and in the same interface that these operators use to view operation of the process plant. This display configuration system makes the operators more productive because the operators can quickly create and implement their own specialized dashboards, as these operators determine these dashboards are needed. Each dashboard has a defined layout specifying locations or regions at which display elements can be shown in the dashboard, and this layout is operator modifiable. Operators can easily create content on their own dashboards using predefined but configurable display building blocks called gadgets, which can be pre-stored in a library and can be made available for the operator during dashboard creation activities.

  • Patent number: 8392845
Abstract: Methods and apparatus to upgrade and control information presented to process plant operators are disclosed. A disclosed example method to control information presented to a process plant operator comprises presenting a first version of a process plant display, presenting a dynamic attention user interface when a selectable element of the first version of the process plant operator display is activated, wherein the dynamic attention user interface is to be used to adjust an importance of information presented in the first version of the process plant display, and presenting a second version of the process plant display based on a variable adjusted via the dynamic attention user interface.

  • Patent number: 8233998
Abstract: Secure data write apparatus and methods for use in safety instrumented process control systems select a parameter associated with a process control element within the process control system and send first data associated with the parameter to the process control element. A confirmation associated with a request to write the first data to the process control element is received from a user and the second data is sent to the process control element in response to receiving the confirmation. The first and second data are compared at the process control element and the first or second data are written to a location in the process control element associated with the parameter if the first and second data are at least substantially identical.

  • Publication number: 20120029661
Abstract: A process control management method in a computer system for configuring and supervising a process plant includes providing an interactive user interface to manage a plurality of objects in the process plant, where each of the plurality of objects corresponds to a physical or logical entity in the process plant, including generating a navigation pane to display a set of selectable items, each in the set of selectable items corresponding to a respective one of the plurality of objects, and generating a command pane to display a set of selectable controls, each in the set of selectable controls corresponding to a task to be performed on at least one of the plurality of objects in the process plant; receiving a selection of one of an item in the set of selectable items via the navigation panel and a control in the set of selectable controls via the command panel; determining an operational context based on the received selection, wherein the operational context corresponds to one of a range of actions applicable

  • Publication number: 20100004759
Abstract: Example methods and apparatus to manage process plant alarms are disclosed. A disclosed example method includes receiving a process plant control system configuration parameter, the process plant control system configuration parameter representing a selected state of a process plant, performing a first query in an alarm definition data structure based on the process plant control system configuration parameter to obtain an alarm configuration parameter for a process plant alarm module of a process plant controller, and configuring a state of the process plant alarm module based on the obtained alarm configuration parameter.

  • Patent number: 7562135
Abstract: Enhanced Fieldbus device alerts enable Fieldbus devices within a process control system to report alarm or alert conditions that are detected within the devices to a system user or operator using a plurality of independently reportable device alarm parameters, each of which corresponds to a different level of severity and each of which may require a different type of response by the system user or operator. The independently reportable device alarm parameters include a parameter associated with a failure of a Fieldbus device, a parameter associated with maintenance needed by a Fieldbus device and an advisable action in connection with a Fieldbus device.
