  • Publication number: 20090321977
Abstract: A method of providing the periphery of a glazing with a gasket by moulding using a mould having at least one moulding surface is disclosed. The method comprises forming the gasket from polyurethane precursors by contacting the glazing with the precursors and allowing the precursors to polymerise and harden. The moulding surface is provided with a releasable coating in an aqueous solution. The coating bonds with the polyurethane during polymerisation such that it is incorporated into the gasket, and prevents the polyurethane from coming into contact with the moulding surface to which it has been applied.

  • Patent number: 7628947
Abstract: An appendage (7) is molded onto a glazing profile (3) provided around the periphery of a pane of glass (2), the process comprising advancing a mold (20) into sealing contact with an appropriate part of the profile, introducing a predetermined quantity of polymer material (39) into a mold cavity (40), and allowing the polymer material to bond to the glazing profile. The pane of glass remains outside the mold cavity, and is preferably not contacted by the mold. The polymer material may be thermosetting or thermoplastic, and is preferably introduced into the mold cavity while the mold is open. The material may be poured if it is in a fluid condition, or, if it is thermoplastic, it may be introduced in the form of a preformed piece (50) which is superficially melted to bond it to the glazing profile. The process is suitable for molding sharp corners onto extruded profiles on vehicle glazings (1).

  • Patent number: 6890468
Abstract: A mold is described for molding an elastomeric glazing profile in situ on a single major face of a sheet of glazing material, e.g. a glass sheet. The mold comprises a first mold segment and at least one further mold segment which are relatively movable into intimate contact, so that they define, together with the sheet, a mold cavity for molding the profile on the single major face. The profile has a show face, (i.e. one which is visible in use), and the portion of the mold cavity that molds the show face is entirely formed by a single mold segment to avoid mold lines on the show face. Also described are a corresponding molding method and the glazing product thereby obtained, which may be used as a vehicle window.

  • Patent number: 6774342
Abstract: A glazing provided with an electric circuit includes an electrically conducting substrate and a terminal for making electrical connection thereto. The terminal is attached to the glazing by an adhesive, rather than solely by solder, and the electrical connection between the terminal and the substrate is provided by means other than, or additional to, physical contact between the terminal and the substrate. For instance, the adhesive may be electrically conducting, or a soldered joint may additionally be provided if the adhesive is electrically insulating, or of insufficient conductivity for the type of circuit in question. The adhesive may be pre-applied to the terminal, and may be a tack-free adhesive activated or cured by heat. The terminal may be in two parts, with the base part of a standardized design. The glazing is suitable for use in buildings, appliances or vehicles, especially automotive vehicles.

  • Patent number: 5364479
Abstract: Decorated sheets of laminated safety glass, particularly for use in the field of building construction and vehicles for transportation, are manufactured using a process which makes it possible to obtain a product which can be defined as laminated safety glass. The process consists in reproducing the decoration on a support formed by paper and polyethylene layers and transferring said decoration onto the interposed plastic film, using the adhesive bond differential between decoration and polyethylene and decoration and plastic film.

  • Patent number: 5069852
Abstract: A method of manufacturing a sealing gasket on the rim of a sheet of glass has a preformed sealing gasket fixed to the rim of a glass. Polymerization is carried on in situ with a polyurethane material in a modified mold in which the preformed sealing gasket is positioned. The preformed sealing gasket also forms a sealing junction to avoid leakage of the polymer material.

  • Patent number: 4655589
Abstract: An apparatus used directly on a flat sheet of transparent material, especially tempered glass, for simultaneous measurement of sign and amplitude of stress across the section of said glass sheet using scattered light. The apparatus allows reliable and repetitive measurements independently of the operator's subjective observations, since the data is read through an automatic system. The apparatus has a Helium-Neon (He-Ne) laser source of 1 to 5 mW, whose light beam is linearly polarized, then modulated with a series of wave plates (2,2', 2"), then passed through a collimator (3) and subsequently made to strike a prism (4) optically coupled with the glass sheet (V) being tested. Variation in intensity of the interference fringes is revealed by a TV camera (5) having a macrophotographic lens system (5') which focusses the scattered light on a solid-state array photodetector (5').
