  • Patent number: 11767570
Abstract: A protective mask for a part, the part including a plurality of openings in a surface thereof, is provided. The protective mask includes a mounting member at least partially within each of at least two of the plurality of openings. Each mounting member includes a water soluble material. A masking member couples the at least two mounting members. The masking member includes a non-water soluble material. Each mounting member includes a first plurality of integral layers of the water soluble material, and the masking member includes a second plurality of integral layers of the non-water soluble material. The protective mask can be made by a two material additive manufacturing system. A related method is also provided.

  • Patent number: 11085303
Abstract: A blade vibration damping system impacts a pressurized damping fluid on a surface of at least one of a plurality of blades of a turbine in opposition to a vibratory movement thereof to cause damping of vibration of the blade(s) during operation of the turbine. The system includes a fluid injection nozzle in a stationary component adjacent the plurality of blades. A valve selectively admits the pressurized damping fluid to the fluid injection nozzle from a source of pressurized damping fluid, and a control system controls the valve to operate the fluid injection nozzle in response to an operational parameter exceeding a threshold during operation of the turbine. A related turbine casing and method are also provided.

  • Patent number: 11035248
Abstract: Turbine shrouds including shot peen screens integrally formed therein. The shroud may include a unitary body having a support portion coupled directly to a turbine casing of the turbine system, an intermediate portion integral with and extending away from the support portion, and a seal portion integral with the intermediate portion, opposite the support portion. The unitary body may also include an inlet opening(s) formed in the support portion, a plenum(s) in fluid communication with the inlet opening(s), and a cooling passage extending through the seal portion and in fluid communication with the plenum(s). Additionally, the unitary body may include a shot peen screen(s) positioned within the plenum(s) and extending within the intermediate portion. The shot peen screen(s) may include a plurality of voids formed therethrough and may prevents shot from passing through the shot peen screen(s) when performing a shot peening process on the unitary body.
