  • Patent number: 9506612
Abstract: A luminaire can comprise two different types of light emitting diodes (“LEDs”), for example a chip-on-board light emitting diode (“LED”) and at least one discrete light emitting diode. The luminaire can have a normal mode of operation that utilizes utility power and an emergency mode of operation that utilizes battery power. The luminaire may transition from normal to emergency mode upon loss of the utility power. During normal operation, the luminaire can operate the chip-on-board light emitting diode using utility power. During emergency operation, the luminaire can operate the discrete light emitting diode using battery power, without operating the chip-on-board light emitting diode.
