  • Patent number: 5279854
Abstract: An apparatus and method for forming absorbent articles having superabsorbent particles. Air-entrained absorbent particles are directed through a diverter valve which alternately directs the particles to first and second dispensing nozzles. The nozzles are positioned for dispensing the particles into a moving web of fibrous material, such as wood pulp fluff. Selective operation of the valve in synchronization with the conveying arrangement for the wood pulp fibrous material permits deposition of the absorbent particles in desired patterns within selected portions of the fibrous material.
