  • Publication number: 20040086984
Abstract: There is provided a microbiological one-step method for the manufacture of ascorbic acid. The method comprises use of the operon expressing 2-ketogluconate dehydrogenase in naturally occurring microorganisms and microorganisms transformed with DNA encoding the 2-ketogluconate dehydrogenase gene. Ascorbic acid is obtained from culturing microorganisms expressing 2-ketogluconate dehydrogenase.

  • Publication number: 20040053213
Abstract: The present invention discloses a rapid and easily performed method for the determination of the presence or absence of bacteria in a sample. The method involves using polymerase chain reaction nucleic acid primers to amplify target microbial sequences and thereafter detecting the presence or absence of amplicons using microsphere agglutination.

  • Patent number: 4663162
Abstract: Bacillaceae capable of inhibiting the growth of Verticillium dahliae have been found to protect agricultural crops against verticillium wilt. In particular, by applying Bacillus polymyxa 9A to potato seed pieces prior to planting, verticillium wilt in the resulting potato plants is substantially prevented.Bacillus polymyxa 9A was deposited at the American Type Culture Collection on Dec. 27, 1983, and granted accession no. 39564.

  • Patent number: 4588689
Abstract: A novel restriction endonuclease designated XcyI recognizes and cleaves the sequence 5'-C.dwnarw.CCGGG-3', where the arrow indicates the cleavage site. The enzyme may be obtained from Xanthamonas cyanopsidis.Xanthamonas cyanopsidis strain 13D5 was deposited at the American Type Culture Collection on Jan. 20, 1984, and granted accession No. 39587.
