  • Publication number: 20130283597
Abstract: A unified head for a staked fastener wherein the unified head is made from a first member in combination with a supplemental member, and the two members have at least one shared fiber. In a staking operation that forms the unified head, the operation is conducted in such a manner that a portion of a fiber, initially within the first member or the supplemental member, crosses the boundary therebetween creating the shared fiber, i.e., a segment of a single fiber is embedded in the first member and a segment is embedded in the supplemental member.

  • Publication number: 20110239426
Abstract: An aligner and a method for its use in staking a fastener. More specifically, the aligner guides a tip of a staking tool in some portion of a staking operation properly into alignment with a clinch portion of a staked fastener. As a result, the clinch portion is shaped into a head of a generally higher quality than would otherwise occur.

  • Publication number: 20060067806
Abstract: A unified multi-part head for a staked fastener wherein the unified multi-part head is made from a first member in combination with a supplemental member, and the two members have at least one shared fiber. In a staking operation that forms the unified multi-part head, the operation is conducted in such a manner that a portion of a fiber, initially within the first member or the supplemental member, crosses the boundary therebetween creating the shared fiber, i.e., a segment of a single fiber is embedded in the first member and a segment is embedded in the supplemental member.

  • Patent number: 4825516
Abstract: First and second complementary snap-fastener components locally and in-situ molded to the same side of a single flexible porous substrate and at relatively short spacing from each other, such that the substrate can be folded between these complementary components to permit their selective mutual engagement and disengagement. One of these formations is a stud component and the other is a socket component, and the sizing of their engageable formations is such that a predetermined clearance characterizes a loose fit when in mutually engaged relation. The looseness of this fit bears a predetermined relation to the thickness and flexible deformability of another flexible member or tie element which is interposed between the snap-fastener elements to secure a given selected location of snap-fastener retention to the tie element. Several embodiments are described.

  • Patent number: 4389267
Abstract: A flexible cover, blind or shade is fabricated from thermoplastic rod or tubular members which are spaced from another on a support. The free-standing side is engaged by an ultrasonic resonator to bond the members to one another. The pressure exerted during bonding is of such magnitude as to compress and flatten the members to cause a thin web joining juxtaposed members, the web forming a flexible joint.

  • Patent number: 4155499
Abstract: Metallic workpieces, such as the terminals of a direct current motor armature winding, are welded to a slot, such as a commutator slot, using high frequency vibratory energy. A half wavelength resonator including a tip having a cutting surface is disposed opposite a slot containing the workpieces. As an applied force urges the tip into relative motion with respect to the slot, the cutting surface cleaves a sliver from the slot wall, the sliver being urged by the tip into intimate contact with the workpieces to be welded. When the resonator is rendered resonant for undergoing high frequency vibratory motion in a direction normal to the applied force the sliver and workpieces are welded together and to a surface of the slot.

  • Patent number: 4006707
Abstract: A resonator dimensioned to be resonant along its longitudinal axis at a predetermined frequency of vibration includes a liquid retaining recess therein disposed at or near an antinodal region of longitudinal motion. An electroacoustic converter coupled to one end of the resonator renders the resonator resonant at its predetermined high frequency for activating a liquid, such as molten solder, disposed in the liquid retaining means to effect soldering a workpiece immersed in the liquid of the retaining means. Means move said resonator between a storage tank, whereat to charge said recess, and working position whereat to effect said workpiece treatment.
