  • Patent number: 6059898
Abstract: Induction hardening of heat treated gear teeth which includes the steps of rough and finish cutting the gear teeth, or alternatively cutting the gear teeth to their final configuration utilizing a one cut method, carburizing the gear and in particular, the gear teeth, slow cooling, or alternatively drawing back the gear so the gear teeth are not hard, and induction hardening the gear teeth heating only the surface of the gear teeth. This results in improved strength for the gear teeth as a result of increased residual compressive stresses therein. Induction heating of only the surface of the gear teeth results in an relatively low case depth in the root of the gear teeth.

  • Patent number: 5853881
Abstract: A composite elastic material is provided having improved hysteresis comprising a layer of an elastic material bonded to a layer of nonelastic material at least one side. The elastic material layer is made from a blend of a narrow polydispersity number polymer and a conventional elastomer, and the blend is essentially free of low molecular weight polyethylene processing aids. The composite elastic material laminate should have a hysteresis at least 15 percent better than a similar laminate made without the narrow polydispersity number elastomer but with the processing aid.

  • Patent number: 5825350
Abstract: Pointing apparatus and method provide for control of cursor movement and selection of elements on a computer screen. Gyroscopic elements within the pointing apparatus indicate yaw and pitch movements in free space, and a mouse ball and mouse ball encoders indicate movement on a surface. Data indicative of the distance and direction the cursor is to be moved is generated from outputs of the gyroscopic elements and the mouse ball encoders. Certain amounts of movement are deemed unintentional, and, if necessary, the pointing apparatus adjusts the data so as not to indicate movement of such amounts. By doing so, the pointing apparatus minimizes unintentional cursor movement caused by instability of the gyroscopes and the inability of a person to hold the pointing apparatus absolutely motionless.

  • Patent number: 5804021
Abstract: The present invention is directed to elastic fibrous nonwoven web laminates which exhibit elastic properties in at least one direction and, if desired, two or more directions due to the use of at least one fibrous nonwoven web facing layer which contains a plurality of slits. The resultant laminates are useful in a wide variety of applications not the least of which include garments, surgical drapes and other supplies as well as personal care absorbent articles including diapers, training pants, sanitary napkins, incontinence garments, bandages and the like. Processes for forming such laminates are also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 4590716
Abstract: A gutter system to exclude contaminants and encourage the migration of water only therewithin including a conduit having a bottom wall, side walls and a top wall, the top wall being provided with a longitudinal slit along its length adapted to receive therewithin a plurality of comb-like teeth depending from the roof, the comb-like teeth disposed in substantially a vertical plane and its associated comb structure optionally having a textured surface for attracting water within the slit by capillary attraction which water is thereafter disposed in the conduit and removed from the premises.

  • Patent number: 4188782
Abstract: In a fuel vaporizing type of combustor for gas turbines, using fuel vaporizing tubes and associated mechanism, the vaporizing tubes having a construction and configuration adapted to maintain uniform temperatures therein, the structure as well maintaining uniform temperatures in the head plate of the unit and in an associated splash plate, if used, the structure further tending to eliminate carbon build-up within the tube per se.

  • Patent number: 4069921
Abstract: An overhead crane for use in handling critical loads and including a horizontally movable trolley on which is mounted a single failure proof hoist mechanism having alternative or redundant means for supporting the loads if structural failure occurs in the hoist mechanism. The hoist mechanism comprises a rotatable drum, drive means for rotating the drum, an upper sheave block, and a lower sheave block supporting a hook assembly. A pair of wire ropes, each capable of fully supporting the load, are wound around the drum and the upper and lower sheave blocks and function to suspend the lower sheave block and the hook assembly. The hoist mechanism also comprises an equalizer assembly operably connected to the trolley and supporting the ropes in such a manner as to provide means to compensate for any discrepancies in the lengths of the two ropes.

  • Patent number: 4008479
Abstract: This disclosure deals with a novel dual-frequency circularly polarized antenna that is particularly adapted for receiving satellite transmissions and/or for transmitting signals to satellites as for navigation purposes, the antenna being adapted through novel conductive preferably spiral-element configurations of different lengths, to produce substantially omnidirectional horizontal coverage and substantially hemispherical vertical coverage at two or more operating frequencies.
