  • Patent number: 5874744
Abstract: There is disclosed a process and apparatus for receiving and reproducing radiographic information from an anisotropic storage phosphor screen including an auto-collimating photostimulable phosphor layer of a material selected from the group consisting of europium activated barium fluorobromide, europium activated potassium chloride, indium activated potassium bromide or indium activated rubidium iodide, which absorbs impinging ionizing radiation emanating from or passing through an object to be imaged, a collimated or focused interrogating beam of photons directed parallel to the columnar structure of the screen to stimulate the trapped electrons within the storage phosphor to release the energy stored therein as luminescent photons, an opto-electro-mechanical assembly to achieve a raster scan of the interrogating beam over the area of the phosphor screen, a detector for converting the luminescent photons into electrical signals, and a computer to record and/or display the intensity versus positional informat

  • Patent number: 5548123
Abstract: Apparatus for generating plural electrical signals in a single scan in response to incident X-rays received from an object. Each electrical signal represents an image of the object at a different range of energies of the incident X-rays. The apparatus comprises a first X-ray detector, a second X-ray detector stacked upstream of the first X-ray detector, and an X-ray absorber stacked upstream of the first X-ray detector. The X-ray absorber provides an energy-dependent absorption of the incident X-rays before they are incident at the first X-ray detector, but provides no absorption of the incident X-rays before they are incident at the second X-ray detector. The first X-ray detector includes a linear array of first pixels, each of which produces an electrical output in response to the incident X-rays in a first range of energies. The first X-ray detector also includes a circuit that generates a first electrical signal in response to the electrical output of each of the first pixels.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: December 6, 1994
Date of Patent: August 20, 1996
Assignee: Regents of the University of California
Inventors: Victor Perez-Mendez, Claude A. Goodman
  • Patent number: 5427817
Abstract: There is described a process for the vapor deposition of a scintillator phosphor composition with concomitant shadowing wherein the substrate to be processed is rotated through an arc relative to a vapor source of the scintillator phosphor composition whereby shadowing introduces voided gaps or interstices between columns as a result of the preferential components receiving more coating flux, particularly in the presence of oblique flux.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: November 2, 1993
Date of Patent: June 27, 1995
    Assignee: University of California
Inventors: Claude A. Goodman, Alan F. Lyon, Victor Perez-Mendez
  • Patent number: 5262125
Abstract: A method for effecting sterilization in a plasma of low molecular weight aliphatic alcohol, preferably methanol at pressure levels of from 10 mTorr to 10 Torr at RF energy levels to establish and maintain a plasma for a time sufficient to achieve substantial total microbicidal effectiveness.
