  • Patent number: 6959744
Abstract: The invention relates to a tire having a rubber tread comprised of cap/base construction where the tread cap layer is the running surface of the tread having a lug and groove configuration and the tread base layer underlies the tread cap layer wherein the base layer provides a transition zone between the tread cap layer and the remainder of the tire carcass and is not intended to be ground-contacting. For this invention, the tread cap layer is comprised of three distinct load-bearing zones which contain reinforcing fillers selected from precipitated silica and carbon black, namely a circumferential annular central zone of a rubber composition to promote traction for the running surface of the tread, wherein the central zone is positioned between two lateral and peripheral circumferential annular zones of a rubber composition to promote resistance to tread wear for the running surface of the tread.

  • Patent number: 4227473
Abstract: A can opening device for opening cans by unfolding the can rim comprising a clamping disc, a traction disc, and a wedge disc assembled in coaxial relation about an operating axis that is to be disposed crosswise of the can side wall, in which the assembly traction disc has its periphery knurled to ride on the can rim and the wedge disc has formed about its rim a ledge that is shaped about its inner margin to define a circular working edge having a wedging rim at the side surface of the ledge, for application to the can ridge for unfolding the can end and body rims as the device rides about the can ridge. The clamping disc is formed with a smoothly contoured rim portion for clamping against the inside of the can ridge to hold the device in its operative position.

  • Patent number: 4006499
Abstract: A hospital bed having an underframe and a mattress support frame disposed over the underframe, with the underframe and support frame having head and foot ends at the respective ends of same and the underframe mounting a head pedestal at the head end of same, and a foot pedestal at the foot end of same, a first pair of side pedestals disposed one on either side of same at the midportion of the length of the pad, and a second pair of side pedestals disposed one on either side of same intermediate the foot pedestal and the first pair of side pedestals, and means for releasably connecting the support frame to the respective pedestals for pivotal movement with respect thereto in the form of shiftable pins for selectively pivoting the support frame for pivotal movement between opposed pairs of said pedestals.
