  • Patent number: 5451872
Abstract: A device for detecting longitudinal cracks on slabs, in particular on steel slabs, issuing from a continuous casting, by way of eddy current measuring probes fed with an alternating voltage, and device for detecting variations in the voltage indicating the presence of a crack. The device for detecting longitudinal cracks includes on each side of upper and lower faces of the slab, a crack detection unit each including a measuring probe which undergoes a transverse reciprocating motion relative to the direction of travel of the slab, and a device for maintaining the measuring probe of each detection unit at a constant distance relative to the corresponding main face of the slab.
