    Abstract: A composition useful for disinfecting a contact lens comprising a substantially isotonic, aqueous liquid medium containing hydrogen peroxide in an amount effective to disinfect a contact lens contacted with the aqueous liquid medium, and a hydrogen peroxide reducing agent dissolved in the aqueous liquid medium in an amount effective to enhance the antimicrobial activity of the aqueous liquid medium. Preferably, the composition further includes transition metal ions in an amount effective to further enhance the antimicrobial activity of the aqueous liquid medium and is substantially free of peroxidase.
