  • Patent number: 5690178
Abstract: A compact, follow-behind sod cutter employs a frame with two front wheels and two rear wheels. A motor mounted to the frame drives all four wheels for improved traction and stability. The motor also drives an oscillating blade adjacent to said rear wheels. A handle extends rearward from the frame for guiding the sod cutter. A linkage having a proximal portion adjacent to the handle allows the blade to be selectively moved between a raised position in which the blade is above the sod and a lowered position in which the blade cuts the sod.

  • Patent number: 5119880
Abstract: Aerating apparatus is provided and includes a chassis having a handle, a rotor having aerating tines rotatably mounted on the chassis, drive means for rotating the rotor, a support member rotatably mounted on the chassis for movement between a down location at which the aerating tines are out of contact with the ground and an up location at which the aerating tines are in contact with the ground, a pair of wheels mounted on the support member, first and second linkage apparatuses pivotally mounted on the chassis and moving apparatus mounted on the handle for moving the first and second linkage apparatuses to move the support member to the down or up location, adjusting apparatus for adjusting the position of the pair of wheels when the support member is at the up location and a connecting rod connecting the first and second linkage apparatuses for assuring simultaneous movement thereof.

  • Patent number: 4168079
Abstract: The movable carrier includes a series of upright sockets corresponding in peripheral contour to the parts to be stored in upright position therein, spaced, lower base plates for supporting the sockets and an upper reinforcing plate extending longitudinally between the sockets on the respective base plates, with a cutout in the reinforcing plate for each socket having a greater lateral extent. A cross plate extends transversely of the base plate for supporting one or more additional parts. The lower end of a cylindrical part rests on or is connected to the reinforcing plate and rests in inclined position against a semicircular cup mounted on an upstanding bracket. Casters are attached to the underside of a transverse front plate and the tow handle pivotally mounted on the top of the front plate, while wheels and an upstanding handle are mounted at the rear, to permit the carrier to be pulled similar to a dolly, or tipped rearwardly and moved similar to a hand truck.

  • Patent number: 4068455
Abstract: The invention disclosed herein is a debris bag for a push-type lawn comber. Such a lawn comber is representative of similar devices such as lawn mowers and sweepers, in are provided with a rearwardly extended push handle. The lawn comber carries an array of radial impact arms upon a transverse shaft within the body of the comber. Rotation of the shaft and impact arms upon it by a power drive throws debris through a chute at the rear of the machine. A bag is carried upon a frame which latches itself to the chute and cantilevers rearwardly from the chute to define the top of the bag. A closure cover fits over this bag top to enclose it when the unit is n operation. A lever is used to engage the impact arm shaft with the power drive. Whenever the lever is depressed rearwardly alongside the bag, engagement occurs.

  • Patent number: 4028868
Abstract: A towable, wheel-mounted yard maintenance apparatus which may be a lawn comber having impact arms, a lawn mower having a cutting reel, or a sweeper having a cylindrical brush. The working elements, for example the impact arms, are carried upon a shaft within a transverse housing. This housing and the wheels are carried within the embrace of a structural frame. The frame extends in front of, and a short distance beyond each side of the housing to serve as a bumper which prevents the housing from coming too close to an obstruction such as a post or a tree. The frame also protects the wheels from such obstructions. The rear end of the housing is pivoted to the frame and the front end is attached to the frame by a height-adjustment linkage actuated by an adjusting screw which is locked in place whenever the height of the unit is proper for operation.
