    Abstract: Data medium scanning process and apparatus with compensation for positioning errors and dimensional variations. The invention relates to correcting the scanning of a data medium as a function of its position or dimensional errors. It relates to apparatus which receives signals corresponding to the position of a benchmark point and to the skew of a benchmark straight-line of data medium and then computes the coordinates of the scanning lines and of their skew and consequently controls certain deflectors ensuring the desired scanning. The invention exhibits particular utility in the verification of paper money such as bank notes.
