  • Publication number: 20100263382
Abstract: A gas turbine engine fuel nozzle assembly has concentric primary and secondary pilot fuel nozzles with circular primary and annular secondary exits respectively and a main fuel nozzle spaced radially outwardly of the pilot fuel nozzles. The primary and secondary pilot fuel nozzles include conical primary and secondary exit holes respectively. The secondary pilot fuel nozzle is located directly adjacent to and surrounding the primary pilot fuel nozzle. Alternatively the secondary pilot fuel nozzle may be radially spaced apart from the primary pilot fuel nozzle. A fuel injector having a hollow stem may be used to support the fuel nozzle assembly. A first pilot swirler may be located radially outwardly of and adjacent to the dual orifice pilot fuel injector tip, a second pilot swirler located radially outwardly of the first swirler, and a splitter radially positioned between the first and second pilot swirlers.

  • Patent number: 6457316
Abstract: Gas turbine engine fuel nozzles are illustrated which induce swirling to fuel flowing to the engine to facilitate reducing fuel coking. Each fuel nozzle includes an inlet, an outlet and a fuel delivery system extending therebetween. The fuel delivery system includes an inner fuel supply tube and an outer fuel supply tube. The inner fuel supply tube is concentrically aligned within the outer fuel supply tube and includes contoured fuel passageways and a center axis of symmetry. As fuel enters the contoured passageways, the fuel is accelerated locally and directed angularly with respect to the axis of symmetry.

  • Patent number: 6367262
Abstract: A mixer for use in a combustion chamber of a gas turbine engine. The mixer includes a first fuel injector adapted for dispensing droplets of fuel during ignition and low power settings of the engine and a pilot swirler positioned upstream from the first fuel injector. The pilot swirler has a plurality of vanes for swirling air to mix air and the droplets of fuel. The mixer also includes a second fuel injector adapted for dispensing droplets of fuel during high power settings of the engine and a main swirler adjacent the pilot swirler and upstream from the second fuel injector. The main swirler has a plurality of vanes for swirling air traveling through the main swirler to mix air and the droplets of fuel dispensed by the second fuel injector. The mixer also includes a barrier positioned between the pilot swirler and main swirler for separating the first fuel injector from the second fuel injector.
