  • Patent number: 7070728
Abstract: A method for plugging a subset of cells of a honeycomb structure having a plurality of open-end cells extending therethrough including providing at least one cylindrically-shaped first roller including an engagement surface having a plurality of outwardly-extending teeth spaced along a length and about a circumference of the at least one first roller, wherein the teeth are spaced so as to engage a first subset of a total number of cells exposed on a first end of the honeycomb structure. The method also includes rolling the engagement surface of the at least one first roller across the first end of the honeycomb structure with the teeth extending into the first subset of cells, thereby deforming the first end of the honeycomb structure and plugging a second subset of the total number of cells substantially different from the first subset of cells.

  • Publication number: 20060005905
Abstract: A tire with a changing tread pattern is formed by first forming a tire having a tread, the tread having at least one circumferential or lateral groove. A wearable filler, having a configuration corresponding to at least a portion of the circumferential or lateral groove formed in the tire, is located in the radially outer portion of the circumferential or lateral groove or a portion of the circumferential or lateral groove, and secured within the grooves so as to create a groove void radially inward of the wearable filler, the void being exposed upon wear of the tire tread.

  • Patent number: 6256980
Abstract: A thrust reverser for a turbofan jet engine having a stationary structure defining an upstream part of a fan cowling and an axially displaceable, annular structure located downstream of the stationary structure, wherein the inner surface of the fan cowling is spaced from an outer surface of an engine cowling to form an annular duct. A plurality of flaps form a portion of the inner surface of the fan cowling during a forward thrust position, and in a reverse thrust position, the flaps pivotably rotate about a stationary pivot so that their first edges are adjacent with the outer surface of the engine cowling to block the annular duct. A plurality of thrust reverser baffle portions are covered by the flaps during the forward thrust position, and during the reverse thrust position, the thrust reverser baffle portions cover a passageway in the fan cowling between the stationary structure and the displaceable structure.

  • Patent number: 5485064
Abstract: A self-synchronous electrical motor comprises a rotor, a stator formed by stator windings, at least one electronic switch series-connected with a stator winding to control a mean current in the winding, a sensor of the angular position of the rotor to control the working of the switch. This electrical motor also comprises a rotating mechanical commutator or change-over switch device to shunt or route a current given by a power supply source into windings selected as a function of the position of the rotor. The commutator device is interposed in a series circuit formed by the power supply source, the stator windings and the electronic switch. Application to the industry of automobiles using electrical traction.

  • Patent number: 4014579
Abstract: A brake cylinder device including a conventional release piston spring-biased toward a full-application or emergency application position and operable responsively to fluid pressure applied thereto in opposing relation to the spring force acting thereon, to a brake release position, a conventional service application piston, both pistons being subjectable concurrently to fluid pressure for operating the release piston to its release position and the service piston to a service brake application position in accordance with the degree of fluid pressure acting thereon, and a locking mechanism for automatically locking the release piston in its release position upon attainment of a full service application and thereafter during service braking operation at less than full service level and while the vehicle is in motion, and being operable for unlocking the release piston upon stopping of the vehicle and withdrawal of service braking fluid pressure.
