  • Patent number: 5302455
Abstract: A stabilized powdered endothermic blowing agent which is a mixture of polycarboxylic acid and an inorganic carbonate, the polycarboxylic acid and the inorganic carbonate each having been surface treated with a component which prevents water from being absorbed thereby. The blowing agent is incorporated into a composition for producing foamed products. Additives may be added to the composition which function in conjunction with the blowing agent to cause surface migration of the additives and/or improve weld line strength of the foamed products.

  • Patent number: 5250279
Abstract: An improved method for the production of synthetic hydrotalcites having high purity (99+%) and small particle size (<2 microns) is disclosed. This method used inexpensive and available reactants and is suitable for commercial scale production. A source of magnesium, such as magnesium hydroxide; a source of aluminum from a mixture of alumina trihydrate and an alkali metal aluminate; and a source of carbonate, such as sodium bicarbonate, are reacted under hydrothermal conditions at a temperature of between 160.degree.-200.degree. C. to produce synthetic hydrotalcite.

  • Patent number: 5055284
Abstract: A method for producing amorphous aluminocarbonate compounds which comprises continuously recirculating a first aqueous solution from a reaction vessel through a recycle system and injecting a gas comprising carbon dioxide into the first solution at a turbulent area located in the recycle system. A second aqueous solution is added to the first solution while the gas injection is continued, and the pH of the resulting mixture is maintained in the approximate range of from 8 to 10. The gas injection is discontinued when the entire amount of the second solution has been added to the first solution, in order to allow further precipitation of the amorphous compound. The method is particularly adapted for producing amorphous sodium aluminocarbonate and sodium magnesium aluminocarbonate.

  • Patent number: 4888160
Abstract: A process for producing calcium carbonate from calcium hydroxide derived from, for example, limestone, comprises injecting a gas containing carbon dioxide into a recirculating stream flowing in a recycle piping system in communication with a reaction vessel. The carbon dioxide containing gas is injected at a turbulent area located in the recycle piping system. By controlling reaction parameters including pH and temperature, novel calcium carbonate products are formed by the process.

  • Patent number: 4289629
Abstract: The chloride ion and carbonate ion concentrations of a strongly alkaline solution can be reduced by the process of mixing sodium aluminosilicate into the solution, heating the resulting solution to a temperature of at least 90 degrees Celsius to form a sodalite type product, and filtering the sodalite type product from the solution.
