  • Patent number: 6607210
Abstract: An airbag arrangement and method includes an airbag module, which has a module housing and an airbag. The airbag is arranged so that it sequentially unfolds in various directions so that it ultimately becomes positioned in front of the passenger. The airbag has two sections, a first chamber and a second chamber. The first chamber inflates first and is forced to travel substantially laterally along the dashboard toward the A-frame, and rests there or the windshield or both. The airbag is twistingly connected relative to the housing so that as the first chamber inflates, it rests against the windshield or the A-frame and applies a torque thereagainst to stably position the first chamber. The first chamber becomes substantially centered about the front seat. Thereafter, the second chamber inflates toward the seat or the passenger seated therein.

  • Patent number: 6460878
Abstract: An airbag arrangement and method includes an airbag module, which has a module housing and an airbag. The airbag is arranged so that it sequentially unfolds so that it ultimately becomes positioned in front of the passenger. The module is mounted along a roof region of the vehicle, in front of a passenger seat, with an opening of the housing facing toward the windshield. The airbag has a first section and a second section extending from the first section at an angle, which can be substantially at 90°. The first and second sections are configured to deploy substantially downwardly along the windshield. The second section is configured to further deploy toward the passenger, below the passenger's head level.

  • Patent number: 4427215
Abstract: A passive knee restraint for an automotive vehicle is formed by the yieldable rearwardly facing lower wall of a dashboard portion positioned to engage the knees of a seated passenger in an automotive vehicle, thereby restraining the lower portion of the body of the passenger in the seat in the event of sudden vehicle deceleration. According to the invention, this dashboard portion is at least partly swingable on the remainder of the dashboard to afford unrestricted access to the region behind it, thereby allowing repair and maintenance in this region and/or access to articles stored therein as, for example, when a glove compartment is provided behind this swingable part.

  • Patent number: 4379539
Abstract: A motor-vehicle seat adjuster has a sun gear with which at least one planet gear is in continuous mesh. A link has an outer end carrying this planet gear and an inner end pivoted at the axis of the sun gear to allow pivoting of the planet gear between two angularly offset positions in each of which is meshes with a respective output gear. A control element is provided for displacing this gear between these two positions and the sun gear is rotated from an electrical motor. When the planet gear is in mesh with one of the output gears it displaces the seat in one direction and when in mesh with the other output gear it displaces it in another different direction.
