Abstract: For use in a vehicle, an in-dash or other d.c. powered audio-video component such as a head unit, DVD player, or the like, which has an a.c. electrical outlet located so as to be accessible to an occupant of the vehicle. The a.c. power is generated by a power inverter within the component, or is generated by an external power inverter and then passed through the component from a rear panel connector to a front panel connector. The component may also provide front panel audio-video connectors which are passed to through to rear panel connectors, or which are tied into the component's own circuitry.

Abstract: A video display and media player assembly for coupling to a vehicle seat back or headrest. The video display and the media player can be one integral component, or they can be two distinct components and can be coupled together. A shroud holds the video display and the media player, and includes a recess or a slot for providing access to a disc slot or a disc tray of the media player. Optionally, an adaptor mates with the shroud and custom fits the assembly to a particular seat back or headrest.

Abstract: A bifurcated DVD player for custom aftermarket installation in automobiles. It includes a DVD reader which is thin and which can be mounted at any location in the vehicle convenient for the user, and a DVD electronics module which contains the bulkier power supplies, DVD decoder electronics, and the like, and which can be mounted at any other location in the vehicle because the user does not need access to it. The user inserts a DVD disc into the DVD reader, and controls the DVD player's operation via a remote control.

Abstract: A car audio system in which the gain, low/high pass filter, etc. controls are located on a separate control unit rather than on an external amplifier. The external amplifier can be mounted e.g. in the trunk, with the control unit being mounted in the dash with the head unit, enabling adjustment of the various settings from the actual listening position. Optionally, the control unit can be removed from its more convenient location and docked directly into the external amplifier, after an acceptable initial set of control settings is achieved.
