  • Patent number: 5617614
Abstract: An improved bale opening machine comprising beaters rotating at high speed in the gaps within a grid of shoes which bear on the bales being worked and which extend longitudinally into that region comprising a series of grooved wheels for leading and conveying the fibres into the region of action of the beaters. The conveying wheels also operate in the gaps between said shoes.

  • Patent number: 5524428
Abstract: To secure the end of the roving (5) to packages (9) before their doffing from a roving frame, it is proposed to initially raise the package support carriage (2) into a position such that the lower end (4a) of the tubes (4) is at the level of the compressor (16) of the flyers (6), then rotate the packages (9) and flyers (6) through a few revolutions in order to wind and secure the roving (5) onto the lower end portion (4a) of the tubes (4), after which the carriage (2) is lowered to break the roving (5) in the section between the lower end (4a) of the tubes (4) and the flyers (6). Preferably, before lowering the packages (9), a reserve of roving (5) is created by slowly rotating the flyers (6) and packages (9) through a few revolutions, to simultaneously twist the roving (5) and strengthen it.

  • Patent number: 5417047
Abstract: The device comprises a support body (15) fixable to the machine structure and an operating lever (20) pivoted to the support body (15). Two parts (18a, 18b) are axially slidable within the support body (15), one carrying a brake shoe (19) arranged to act on the shank (11) of the spindle and the other engaged with the operating lever (20), the two parts (18a, 18b) being maintained axially spaced apart by a compression spring (24). A return spring (23) acts between the support body (15) and the part (18b) engaging the operating lever (20) to maintain the device in its inactive position. On pressing the lever (20), the brake shoe (19) is urged against the spindle shank (11) with a pressure which depends on the spring (24) interposed between the two parts (18a, 18b), independently of the force exerted on the operating lever (20), so preventing damage or operational problems arising in the spindles if the operator presses excessively on the operating lever (20).

  • Patent number: 5369845
Abstract: To fix the rectilinear combs (4) of a combing machine, a pneumatic system is provided comprising presser elements (16) acting on the section bars (5) of the combs (4) and operated by respective pistons (17) which move within chambers (18) provided in the supports (7) for the section bars (5) and connectable selectively to a compressed air source (22) or to discharge (28). During locking, the presser elements (16) press the section bars (5) of the combs (4) against the supports (7) via plates (20) removably fixed to the ends of the rods (19) of the pistons (17). Discharging the compressed air from the chambers (18) results in simultaneous release of the combs (4). The traditional operations of clamping and releasing the individual comb units (4) are hence eliminated, and the time required for cleaning or replacing the combs is considerably shortened.

  • Patent number: 5369844
Abstract: The position of the gripper unit in a combing machine is monitored, and when the machine is to be halted its stoppage is controlled such that the machine halts always and only when the gripper unit is at its point of maximum opening or maximum closeness to the grabbing rollers. A position sensor (35) is associated for example with the rocker arm (18) which operates the gripper unit and provides pulses at each rocking movement of the arm (18). When the machine motor (27) is to be halted a braking action is produced by a brake (36) after a predetermined time or after measuring a certain number of pulses from the sensor (35) or on measuring a determined time interval between pulses, so as to effectively halt the machine with the gripper unit open.

  • Patent number: 4510646
Abstract: The present invention proposes a device for control of the presence of conductive bodies or materials in bales for processing in bale-breaker machines equipped with rotating members for the take-off of fibre locks from the bales disposed in a row and also equipped with pressure elements resting on the upper surface of the bales being processed. The device comprises conductance sensors associated with the pressure elements and sensitive to the conductance existing between said elements and forming part of an electric circuit adapted to cause the machine to be acted upon in such a way as to prevent damage to the rotating take-off members when the conductance between any of two contiguous pressure elements exceeds a pre-set value. The result of the machine being acted upon may be the halting of the rotating take-off members and/or a raising of such members and possibly a simultaneous cut-out of the machine.

  • Patent number: 4493131
Abstract: A machine for withdrawing or removing fibre staples from a set of bales of textile staples which can be displaced rectilinearly and alternately, with a carriage having a reciprocal vertical motion carrying rotary reels for removing said fibre staples from the bales is controlled by a device which comprises a plurality of detectors adapted previously to determine in the vertical sense sequential working zones for the carriage on the bales and an apparatus for automatically impressing a differential action of the carriage on the bales in relationship with the sequential preselected working areas. Thus the withdrawal of the fibre staples is obtained consistently with the compactness of the material contained in the bales without discrepancies in the production run and with a constant degree of bale-breaking.

  • Patent number: 4493132
Abstract: A device for condensing a fleece emerging from a carding engine or a like machine has two adjoining and aligned sets of rollers (5, 5', 5", 5"') having hollows along their generating lines and which are rotated about their own axes perpendicularly to the plane at which the fleece is doffed, and which are spaced apart relative to a fleece doffing roller (3). The rollers belonging to a set rotate in a direction and those of the adjoining set are rotated in the sense opposite to the former. The rotation of the rollers of two adjoining sets can be concordant in direction so as to provide a central doffing spot (13) between the two sets, or such a rotation can take place in directions opposite to one another and diverging, so as to provide two doffing spots (13,13') placed laterally of the two roller sets. By the rotation of such rollers two airstreams are originated, whereby the fleece is airborne and so conveyed towards the doffing spot(s) where a fibre sliver is formed to be forwarded to a condensing unit.
