  • Publication number: 20100038298
Abstract: The invention concerns high-performance chromatographic columns containing polymeric monolithic supports with continuous bimodal porosity, suitable for the separation and/or purification of organic compounds of low, medium and high molecular weight, and bio-organic compounds such as peptides, proteins, oligo- and polynucleotides, oligo- and polysaccharides. The proposed columns include a hollow tubular support made of silica-based amorphous material or internally lined with such material, containing a monolithic stationary phase having a continuous, porous and rigid polymeric structure, wherein such stationary phase covalently bonds onto the internal walls of the said hollow tubular support. The chromatographic efficiency of the column is greater than 50,000 plates per metre. The invention also concerns methods for preparing such monolithic columns with gamma radiation-induced polymerization processes.

  • Patent number: 7063761
Abstract: A method of mounting a tire on a rim includes selecting a tire comprising bead cores, stretching the bead cores, sliding the bead cores over a balcony portion of the rim, allowing the bead cores to elastically return to lengths corresponding to diameters of respective seats of the rim, and inflating the tire. The bead cores include one or more portions of material with characteristics of superelasticity and shape memory. Stretching the bead cores may include applying constant load to the bead cores at ambient temperature and/or causing the bead cores to undergo structural change at ambient temperature. The structural change may include complete or partial change from austenitic structure to martensitic structure. The one or more portions of material are deformable at ambient temperature in response to a constant force and recover to original shape upon removal of the constant force.

  • Publication number: 20050056967
Abstract: A process for producing and storing a semi-finished product includes preparing an elastomeric composition, forming the composition to obtain a semi-finished product in strip form, and winding up the semi-finished product on a storage reel. At least one polyalkenamer is added during preparing the composition. A tyre for a vehicle wheel includes a belt structure, a tread, and a reinforcing layer disposed between the belt structure and tread. The reinforcing layer includes reinforcing cords coated and held together with a crosslinked elastomeric composition including at least one polyalkenamer. A process for producing the tyre includes manufacturing an unvulcanized tyre including at least one element made of crosslinkable elastomeric material, moulding the unvulcanized tyre in a moulding cavity defined in a vulcanizing mould, and crosslinking the elastomeric material by heating the tyre to a given temperature for a given time. The at least one element includes at least one polyalkenamer.

  • Patent number: 6672353
Abstract: A bead core for locking a tire to a seat of a wheel rim includes a plurality of annular reinforcement elements having an inner transverse dimension smaller than a maximum diameter of the wheel rim, and being sufficiently deformable at ambient temperature to facilitate mounting the tire onto the wheel rim. The plurality of annular reinforcement elements includes at least one tightening element made of a shape-memory alloy responsive to temperature increases by increasing a tightening force on the wheel rim at a predetermined temperature. A tire including the bead core and a method for securing a tire to a rim using the bead core are also disclosed.

  • Publication number: 20030159767
Abstract: A bead wire for a bead core of a tire, having at least one portion of its annular extent formed from a material having characteristics of superelasticity, resulting in increasing deformations of the bead core when a constant stretching load is applied at constant temperature. As the load ceases, the bead core recovers from the deformation. The characteristics of the bead core allow mounting a tire incorporating the bead core to a rim at ambient temperature, with intelligent adjustment of the bead core to the dimensions of the seat of the rim. The bead core increases the magnitude of an inward contraction stress as its temperature increases, so that it increases the gripping pressure exerted by the tire beads on the rim when the tire runs in the deflated state.

  • Patent number: 6554039
Abstract: A tire includes a toroidal carcass and a tread band. The toroidal carcass includes a central crown and two sidewalls terminating in a pair of annular beads. Each annular bead includes a metallic bead core for anchoring to corresponding bead seats of a wheel rim. The metallic bead cores include at least one annular portion made of a material having characteristics of superelasticity and shape memory. The material having characteristics of superelasticity and shape memory is deformable at ambient temperature in response to a constant force and recovers to an original shape upon removal of the constant force to facilitate mounting the tire on the wheel rim. The wheel rim includes a central cylindrical channel from which branches off, axially and outwardly, from opposite sides, diverging surfaces each terminating in a peripheral flange. The diverging surfaces form the bead seats for respective annular beads of the tire.

  • Patent number: 6319345
Abstract: In a tire for motor-vehicles, an auxiliary support element (9) is interposed between a carcass ply (3) and a belt structure (6). The support element is employed during the manufacturing step of the belt structure (6) in order to stably retain, on the sectors of a comb drum (10), coils (7a) consecutively formed by winding of an inextensible cord (7) therearound. The auxiliary support element (9) is made in the form of an elastomeric sheet containing short aramid fibers in an amount included between 1 and 10 parts by weight per 100 parts of elastomeric material, to increase the stretchability of said element without impairing its adhesiveness. The introduction of the short aramid fibers in the blend enables the thickness of the auxiliary support element (9) to be reduced to about 0.075 mm.
