  • Patent number: 8256344
Abstract: A first roller, which takes up dampening fluid from a dampening agent reservoir, and a second roller, are controlled. The first roller transfers the dampening fluid to the second roller. The first roller and the second roller have separate driving devices and their individual surface velocities differ from each other because of their separate driving devices. A change in the velocity of a form cylinder results in a change in the slip between the first and second rollers. Dampening systems are also contemplated.

  • Publication number: 20110162545
Abstract: A printing unit is comprised at least of a plurality of printing machines which are arranged on the same side of a web to be printed. Each such printing machine includes an inking unit having at least one roller, and a dampening unit. Rollers of the inking units of several of the printing machines, which are arrayed on the same side of the web to be printed, are in thermal contact with the same temperature-control medium unit for controlling the temperature of the rollers. The temperature control medium circuit is configured as an inner temperature-control medium circuit having substantially constant circulating volumetric flow rate of a temperature-control medium.

  • Patent number: 7950640
Abstract: A rotary printing press is usable for producing a newspaper product in tabloid format. The printing press has at least one printing unit which is configured so that it prints a web with printed pages in a horizontal tabloid format. A part web, which is formed by slitting a web, is provided with a fold by a plough folder and that is arranged in the path of travel of the web. The web is folded with a first edge region, which is printed with a narrow printed image section, as a folded portion, along a first folding line by the plough folder. A fold former is arranged after the plough folder. The part web is printed with only one horizontal page in tabloid format and is also printed with a narrow printed section on an adjacent edge region. The part web and the fold former are arranged in the partial web travel direction so that the part web, which is folded along one side by the plough folder, runs into the folding former offset.

  • Patent number: 7387067
Abstract: A medium, typically a fluid, is supplied at a level of a rotatable body and is dispensed by a dispenser, such as a spray dispenser. The spray dispenser includes at least one spraying nozzle which applies a dampening agent to the roller. A spraying frequency of the spraying nozzle is adjusted with respect to a rotation frequency of the roller that is receiving the dampening agent. This makes it possible to avoid superposition of the dampening agent, at least for a defined number of rotations of the roller receiving the dampening agent.

  • Patent number: 7040225
Abstract: Undesirable bending vibrations in at least one rotating component are reduced. An undesirable vibration is counteracted by the use of at least one actuator. A required sequence of signals to be applied to the actuator and/or an intensity level of those signals is based on an angle of rotation position of the rotating component. The rotating component is then subjected to a force based on the position of the angle of rotation.

  • Patent number: 6332397
Abstract: A print unit of an offset printing machine utilizes individually driven cylinders. Each forme cylinder or plate cylinder is driven by its own, separate drive motor. The blanket cylinders, or cooperating blanket cylinders and counter-pressure cylinders are driven together by associated drive motors.

  • Patent number: 6111261
Abstract: The quality of printed, processed material is assessed by passing the processed material through an inspection device. The material for inspection is illuminated with directional light beams. The light rays reflected from the processed material are reflected almost completely into a CCD camera.

  • Patent number: 5836245
Abstract: A multi-color web-fed rotary printing press is arranged having a plurality of printing groups with each group having several individual printing units. Each printing group has an upright drive shaft that is connected to a drive motor for each of the several printing units in the group. The several upright drive shafts are connected to a longitudinal main drive shaft. The individual drive motors and the upright shafts are sized to be able to take over the drive of one of the printing units in a printing group should its motor fail.

  • Patent number: 5704289
Abstract: A flexible plate is securable to a cylinder by insertion of fastening tabs, provided on beveled or angled ends of the plate, into cooperatively shaped end positioned pockets on the cylinder surface. The pockets may be formed by insert strips that utilize spaced tines to define the individual pockets.
