  • Patent number: 4876337
Abstract: In a method of preparing cyanoalkyl-akoxysilanes, which is suitable for the production of these silanes on a large technical scale, the reaction of a chloroalkyl-alkoxysilane with an alkali metal cyanide in the presence of a solvent takes place in a stirring reactor which is provided with means for loading these starting materials and with an outlet opening for the alkali metal chloride by-product, and which is connected through a bypass valve to a column with a superimposed condenser. After the reaction in the reactor has ended, first the solvent is distilled out through the column and then the main part of the cyanosilane, and then the rest of the cyanosilane is distilled out while bypassing the column. The alkali metal chloride is then removed from the reactor through a lock.

  • Patent number: 4604476
Abstract: The present invention relates to mercaptoalkyl alkoxysilanes and the permanent removal of the odorants contained in these compounds. These odorants form during the preparation of the said mercaptosilanes from halogen alkylsilanes with thiourea and ammonia. The removal of the odorants is performed by the admixture of compounds which contain oxirane groups. A subsequent purification, e.g., by distillation, after the addition of these compounds in accordance with the invention, is not necessary. The additive used in accordance with the invention also brings about a sustaining of the freedom from odor for several months.

Abstract: A method for the preparation of 2-chloroethyldichlorosilanes by the reaction of vinyldichlorosilanes with hydrogen chloride in the presence of ferric chloride or tantalum chloride is disclosed. In the presence of these anhydrous metal chlorides, this reaction can be performed in the temperature range between 30.degree. and 90.degree. C., without the formation to any appreciable extent of methyl or ethyl trichlorosilane or other cleavage products. The end products obtained can also be easily separated from the byproducts by vacuum distillation without the need to resort to additional measures. The vacuum distillation can also be performed in the presence of the metal chlorides.
