  • Patent number: 10550784
Abstract: Methods and systems for operating an engine with an electrically driven compressor are described. In one example, output of the electrically driven compressor is adjusted to increase a temperature of an engine so that the engine may be started without glow plugs or with glow plugs that have a lower heat capacity output. Additionally, a position of a recirculation valve may be adjusted to increase the temperature of the engine.

Date of Patent: February 4, 2020
    Assignee: Ford Global Technologies, LLC
Inventors: Brien Fulton, Michiel Van Nieuwstadt, Claus Maerschank, Daniel Roettger

  • Patent number: 10240665
Abstract: Methods and systems are provided for tensioning a belt of a belt drive of an internal combustion engine. In one example, a movable tensioning means assigned to an active tensioner is provided, which applies a force to a belt of a belt drive, and the active tensioner is controlled such that a compression of a spring of the tensioner is at least countered, so that a movement of the tensioning means under the load of the belt is at least hindered. The belt is then excited to vibration in a contact zone between the belt and the movable tensioning means by use of a starter so that the tensioning means exposed to the force of the spring is moved further in the direction of the belt under expansion of the spring, whereby the belt is tensioned.

  • Patent number: 9890728
Abstract: Methods and systems for evaluating cylinder pressure profiles in cylinders of an engine are disclosed. In one example, fuel injection timing of engine cylinders is adjusted to improve engine combustion in response to output of one or more pressure sensors installed in engine cylinders. Combustion within a plurality of engine cylinders may be adjusted in response to pressure sensed in a single engine cylinder.

  • Patent number: 8960161
Abstract: The present application relates to a fuel injection system of an internal combustion engine having an automatic stop-start system, the fuel injection system comprising a high pressure fuel pump, which via a fuel pump line delivers fuel towards a common fuel rail, to which a fuel return line is connected. It is proposed that the fuel return line comprise a control element system, which firstly discharges a fuel pressure to a fuel tank, when a first predefined pressure limit is reached in the fuel return line, and which secondly prevents a further flow of fuel from the return line into the fuel tank, but allows a flow of fuel from the fuel tank into the fuel return line, so that the return line is designed as a fuel pressure accumulator.
