A crankcase is connected to the cylinder and a crankshaft is rotatably supported therein. The piston is operatively connected to the crankshaft so as to drive the crankshaft in rotation. A transfer passage provides flow communication between crankcase interior and combustion chamber when the piston is at bottom dead center. The transfer passage has a port opening connecting the transfer passage to the crankcase interior and has a transfer port connecting the transfer passage to the combustion chamber. A fuel supply device supplies fuel into the transfer passage at a location between the transfer port and the port opening. The transfer passage has a connecting opening and is connected to the crankcase interior at the connecting opening. A control element controls the connecting opening.

The clutch has at least one driving element which is operatively connected to the internal combustion engine and at least one output element which is operatively connected to the tool. The internal combustion engine has a starting device with a starting position and an operating position. To avoid unintentional rotation of the output element when starting the internal combustion engine, the work implement has a blocking device with a detent pawl. In an actuated position, the detent pawl projects into the movement path of the output element, limiting the rotation of the output element. In an unactuated position, the detent pawl releases the output element. The starting device has an actuating device which, in the starting position, keeps the detent pawl in the actuated position.

    Abstract: A portable, handheld work apparatus such as a chain saw has a handle (5, 7) to guide the work apparatus (1) and has an air-cooled, mixture-lubricated combustion engine (10) arranged in a casing as a drive for a work tool (3). The cylinder (11) has a combustion chamber (13) formed therein to which an air/fuel mixture is supplied. The air/fuel mixture is ignited by a spark plug (23) which projects into the combustion chamber (13). An ignition control (30) triggers a spark in dependence on the angular position of the crankshaft (15). A temperature sensor (35, 45, 55) is provided to control the cylinder temperature. The temperature signal of the temperature sensor (35, 45, 55) is connected to a power control (40). When a predetermined temperature is exceeded, the power control (40) changes the operating parameters of the combustion engine (10) in such a manner that the power of the combustion engine (10) is changed.

    Abstract: A method controls the rotational speed limiting of an engine in a handheld work apparatus. The crankshaft of the engine drives a worktool via a clutch which engages in dependence on the motor rotational speed. Above an engaging speed of the clutch, a drive connection with the crankshaft is made and below the engaging speed, the drive connection is interrupted. A speed control unit monitors the rotational speed of the engine and includes a rotational speed lock circuit which limits the speed to a limit below the engaging speed. During the start of the engine, the lock circuit is switched on; it is switched off after the engine has been taken into operation when a deactivation signal is present, wherein the deactivation signal is generated when an operation change signal of the work apparatus is detected.

A method for operating the internal combustion engine is provided where the ambient pressure is determined using the crank casing pressure measured by the crank casing pressure sensor.

    Abstract: A two-stroke engine has a fuel supply device, an intake passage formed partially in the fuel supply device, and an air filter with clean air chamber. The intake passage upstream of the fuel supply device is connected to the clean air chamber. A partition divides the intake passage downstream of the fuel supply device into a supply passage for fuel-free air and a mixture passage for fuel/air mixture. A throttle valve is supported in the intake passage and aligned in at least one operating state with the partition. A pressure differential between the mixture passage and the supply passage is determined, and in a method for operating such a two-stroke engine, fuel is supplied into the intake passage by a fuel supply valve in the operating state substantially only when the pressure in the mixture passage is not greater than the pressure in the supply passage.
