  • Patent number: 5112649
Abstract: Method of depositing micro-crystalline solid particles from a vapor phase containing a carbonaceous gas using chemical vapor deposition (CVD), in which the solid particles to be deposited are deposited at a pressure in the range from 10.sup.-5 to 1 bar onto a substrate which has been heated to a temperature in the range from 450.degree. to 1200.degree. C. and in which the chemical vapor phase reactions are effected in the gas phase which is thermally energized by means of a resistance heat conductor, a resistance heat conductor made of a carbide of at least one transition metal from the secondary group IVa to VIa of the periodic element system (PSE) with a carbon content which substantially corresponds to a stoichiometrical composition of the carbide and having a melting point of >2000.degree. C. being used.

  • Patent number: 4893909
Abstract: A magneto-optical light switching element comprising islands which are formed from an epitaxial layer on the basis of bismuth-substituted rare earth metal iron garnet, which layer is provided on a nonmagnetic, optically transparent garnet substrate, integrated heating resistors being provided on the islands which are surrounded by a coil, the substrate being (100)-oriented and the coil being constructed as an integrated coil.

  • Patent number: 4770504
Abstract: A magneto-optical light switching element comprising islands which are formed from an epitaxial layer on the basis of bismuth-substituted rare earth metal iron garnet, which layer is provided on a magnetically unordered, optically transparent, (111)-oriented garnet substrate, integrated heating resistors being provided on the islands which are surrounded by a coil, the epitaxial layer being grown from a melt which contains lead oxide and boron oxide as a flux, the boron content of the melt used for growing the epitaxial layer being in the range from 12.7 to 25 at % (cation content) and the coil being constructed as an integrated coil.

  • Patent number: 4712855
Abstract: Planar optical waveguide having a crystal body consisting of a nonmagnetic substrate having a first magnetooptical layer epitaxially provided on the substrate and a second magnetooptical layer epitaxially provided on the first mangetooptical layer. The two magnetooptical layers consist of a material based on iron garnet. The second magnetooptical layer has a refractice index n.sub.2 which is approximately 1.times.10.sup.-3 to 1.times.10.sup.-2 higher than the refractive index n.sub.1 of the first magnetooptical layer. A layer of a material based on iron garnet and absorbing radiation in the wavelength range of 1.0.ltoreq..lambda..ltoreq.2.5 .mu.m is provided between the substrate and the first magnetooptical layer, said iron garnet-based layer having a refractive index n.sub.A which is higher than the refractive index of the first magnetooptical layer.
