    Abstract: The present invention provides an abrasive-free cleaning composition which includes, in aqueous solution, a bleach, a colloidal thickener, and a source of divalent ionic calcium. The composition further includes at least one surfactant which is effective to provide cleaning activity and, in association with the colloidal thickener, thickening. The composition also includes an electrolyte/buffer which is effective to promote an environment in which the thickener and the surfactant associate to provide proper thickening. The inventive cleaning composition, with its ionic calcium source, has desirable viscosity and rheological properties, and demonstrates significant viscosity stability, rheological stability, phase stability and bleach stability. The cleaning composition maintains these desirable properties under typical storage conditions as well as over extended times and at elevated temperatures.

The composition comprises: (a) a glycoside surfactant, the total amount of said surfactant being present in a cleaning effective amount; (b) a chelating agent, said chelating agent present in an amount effective to enhance bathroom soil removal in said composition; and (c) the remainder, water. A solvent such as isopropyl alcohol may also be added. The employment of a glycoside surfactant, especially one having an HLB value of greater than 13, remarkably improves the performance of such a shower rinsing composition both with respect to surface appearance streaking and filming and also bathroom soil and soap scum removing ability.

    Abstract: A thickened liquid bleach composition and methods of use and manufacture are disclosed wherein the hypochlorite bleach composition includes about 0.1-10% by weight hypochlorite and is thickened by a thickening component including a cross-linked polyacrylate polymer in an amount effective for thickening the composition, effectively reducing bleach odor when the composition is dispensed onto a surface to be cleaned and also maintaining stability of the composition, the cross-linked polyacrylate polymer preferably forming about 0.2-2.0% by weight and more preferably about 0.4-0.8% by weight of the composition, the composition also including a stabilizer for the cross-linked polyacrylate polymer. The composition is adapted for being directed onto hard surfaces to be cleaned. The composition preferably exhibits shear sensitivity or plasticity facilitating its use in the spray-type dispenser.

    Abstract: An apparatus for surface cleaning is provided in which a first liquid, which includes an oxidizing agent, and a second liquid, which includes a builder or a chelating agent, are initially maintained separately. The apparatus is constructed to facilitate delivery of these two liquids such that they are combined to form an admixture during delivery to a surface to be treated. Either or both of the first and second liquids include a pH-adjusting agent, which is present in an amount such that when the liquids are so delivered, the resulting admixture is maintained at a pH sufficient for cleaning efficacy and stability of the oxidizing agent. The present invention also provides a composition produced by a process of maintaining the two above-mentioned liquids separately and forming an admixture thereof during delivery to a surface to be treated.

    Abstract: Aqueous cleaning compositions and methods of use are disclosed with a thickening agent including an alkyl ether sulfate surfactant forming about 0.1 to about 10% by wt. of the composition, about 0.1-5.0% by wt. of a cothickening surfactant comprising an alkali metal fatty acid sulfate and/or an alkoxylated alkylphenol sulfate salt, a solvent selected from the class consisting of terpene derivatives including a functional group and tertiary alcohols forming about 0.01 to about 10% by wt. of the composition and an electrolyte component in an amount effective for enhancing thickening effects of the alkyl ether sulfate surfactant and solvent. The electrolyte component preferably includes an alkali metal hypochlorite, more preferably at least one additional multivalent electrolyte, and most preferably sodium carbonate. With the electrolyte component including a hypochlorite, additional electrolytes and the solvent are selected to be bleach stable, the solvent also preferably being a fragrance for the composition.
