  • Patent number: 6295082
Abstract: An apparatus sends electrical signals that represent an optical image to a processor for conversion to video signals suitable for display on a display device. The apparatus includes a device for insertion into a region to be viewed for developing an optical image of the region, an imager for generating electrical signals that represent the optical image, and a digital memory for storing information about the imager. The device is adapted to be connected to the processor so that the processor can receive the electrical signals from the imager and obtain information from the digital memory. The processor uses the information from the digital memory in performing the conversion.

  • Patent number: 5575757
Abstract: An endoscope includes a focusing mechanism having a focus control element at a proximal end of the endoscope and a mechanical coupling connecting the focus control element to an image transmitting device (e.g., an electro-optical sensor or one or more optical fibres) mounted at a distal end of an elongated insertion section of the endoscope. Rotation of the focus control element moves the image transmitting device with respect to a lens assembly of the endoscope to focus the image received by the lens assembly. The focus control element may be disengaged from the mechanical coupling by pulling it axially along the length of the insertion section whereby the focusing mechanism may be easily disassembled.

  • Patent number: 5010876
Abstract: Method and apparatus for providing a disposable, sterile cable connector and camera head for use in endoscopic surgery. A novel camera head design is disclosed in combination with the requisite connector cable, and such camera head/cable is adapted for initial sterility and sterile packaging for subsequent singular use and disposal after surgery. The camera head consists of a charge-coupled device type of image sensor assembled in a compact camera head of a type that can be completely sterilized, sealed and packaged for prolonged shelf storage and eventual disposable usage.
