  • Patent number: 10921508
Abstract: A method of assembling a light fixture includes assembling a light guide into a backing structure. The backing structure includes a sheet and first and second flanges at two opposite edges of the sheet. A row of light emitting diodes (LEDs) is installed on the first flange, positioned to direct light away from the first flange and toward the second flange, and generally parallel with the major surfaces of the flat sheet. The light guide is positioned between the flanges and against the backing structure. The width of the light guide is less than the distance between the LEDs and the second flange. The backing structure and the light guide are bent toward a bottom surface of the backing structure such that the flanges are drawn toward each other and such that the LEDs are drawn toward an input face of the light guide.

  • Patent number: 6439276
Abstract: A kit for facilitating filling a hypodermic syringe from a medication vial and disposing of contaminated syringes includes a syringe-filling guide and a sharps holder. The guide has a base for retaining the syringe against relative movement as the syringe plunger is displaced. An attached cover is pivotally closed over the base and, as a vial is inserted into a channel in the base, the syringe needle pierces the vial stopper for drawing the medication therefrom. The cover includes a magnifying lens through which dosage indicia on the syringe are visible in enlarged condition to facilitate filling the syringe. The holder includes a base having a storage chamber, and a cover. A tray of the holder base closes the chamber and has an elongated slot and a plurality of resilient fingers adjacent the slot for supporting a contaminated syringe. As the holder cover closes over the tray, a pusher forces the syringe through the slot into the chamber.

  • Patent number: 5794186
Abstract: A vocoder device and corresponding method characterizes and reconstructs speech excitation. An excitation analysis portion performs a cyclic excitation transformation process on a target excitation segment by rotating a peak amplitude to a beginning buffer location. The excitation phase representation is dealiased using multiple dealiasing passes based on the phase slope variance. Both primary and secondary excitation components are characterized, where the secondary excitation is characterized based on a computation of the error between the characterized primary excitation and the original excitation. Alternatively, an excitation pulse compression filter is applied to the target, resulting in a symmetric target. The symmetric target is characterized by normalizing half the symmetric target. The synthesis portion performs reconstruction and synthesis of the characterized excitation based on the characterization method employed by the analysis portion.

  • Patent number: 5727125
Abstract: A speech vocoder device and corresponding method synthesizes speech excitation waveforms. The method entails reconstructing (216) an excitation target from decoded speech data, creating (220) aligned excitation segments by normalizing (296), correlating (298), and aligning (300) a source segment and a target segment, reconstructing normalized intervening segments by ensemble interpolating (318) between the source segment and the target segment, denormalizing (320) the normalized intervening segments, and reconstructing (322) an excitation waveform from the denormalized intervening segments, the source segment, and the target segment.

  • Patent number: 4241977
Abstract: This specification describes an amusement device of the kaleidoscopic type where an observer looks down a tube having reflected inside surfaces or planes and usually with two such surfaces at an angle of approximately 45 degrees to one another. The sides of the tube are opaque; but a pair of transparent or translucent discs close the end of the tube opposite the end having the opening for looking along the reflective surfaces. In the prior art loose shapes disposed in the space between the transparent discs tumble over one another as the tube is rotated about its longitudinal axis and interesting designs are formed which appear in the reflectors. The construction of this specification has an opaque wall at the end of the tube and a portion of the tube is made of material that transmits light into the tube to illuminate the opaque end of the tube from the inside. There are no loose shapes in the target.

  • Patent number: 4169531
Abstract: This package has a main panel with a plurality of sockets formed by displacing material of the panel in a direction to form sockets with closed ends within the package and the sockets opening through the bottom of the package. A thin and easily tearable film is adhered to the bottom of the package in position to close the lower ends of the sockets so that products do not fall out. The sockets can be collapsed by finger pressure against the upper ends of the sockets, and a pill pushed from a collapsed socket tears the film as it is pushed out. The package is made child-proof by adhering a strong film over the bottom of the thin film, and this strong tough film can be peeled off when a pill is to be removed from the package by an adult. A cover hinges over one end of the main panel and covers the closed ends of the sockets.
