  • Patent number: 5219146
Abstract: A squeeze off tool for a flexible pipe includes a vice arrangement involving a first member below the pipe and a second member above the pipe, with a framework guiding the second member for movement toward and away from the first. A power screw has one end rotatably mounted in the second member but cannot move axially with respect to the second member, the power screw having external threads at a location remote from the one end. A locking device selectively restrains rotation of the power screw with respect to the second member.

  • Patent number: 4902174
Abstract: An apparatus for tapping live pipes includes an adaptor for affixing to a pipe, the adaptor including a valve for closing off any opening cut into the pipe. The internal drive shaft has a plurality of transverse apertures spaced apart along its length, so that it can be adjusted longitudinally to different positions with respect to the apparatus which grips the drive shaft and urges it toward the pipe during cutting. This avoids the necessity of designing a plurality of apparatuses which are adapted to cutting bits and devices of different lengths.

  • Patent number: 4752073
Abstract: Examination of lottery tickets or other game cards to detect winning combinations of marked numbers is facilitated by a compact reader device having a slot into which the lottery ticket can be inserted. The body of the device including the slot is transpierced by an array of passages corresponding to the array of numbers on the lottery ticket. Each passage contains an opaque slider element which may be shifted between opposite end regions of the passage prior to insertion of a lottery ticket to enable viewing of winning number locations on the ticket and to cover the locations of non-winning numbers when the inserted ticket is viewed through the passages. A key, which can be clamped to the body of the device, is used to position the slider elements prior to insertion of the lottery ticket.

  • Patent number: 4556207
Abstract: An apparatus for clamping a plastic fitting against a plastic pipe and for holding them together with a predetermined clamping force includes a carriage and guide rods for guiding the carriage in vertical motion above a fixed pipe support. A frame is fixed with respect to the pipe support, and first and second toggle links are pivoted to the carriage, to the frame and to each other in such a way that the links can achieve an aligned position in which the carriage is in its lowermost location. Mechanical interference is provided to prevent the toggle links from going significantly past the dead center position represented by the alignment. A receptacle is resiliently supported below the carriage for holding the plastic fitting, and a lever is provided for rotating one of the toggle links. The connection of the toggle links to the frame is vertically adjustable with respect to the frame, in order to adjust the degree of downward force placed on the plastic fitting.

  • Patent number: 4453399
Abstract: A leak detecting method utilizes a pressure vessel for holding gas under ssure and a transparent chamber partly filled with liquid. A conduit defines a gas pathway from the vessel to a location within the chamber which is beneath the surface of the liquid. A fitting is provided for connection to a system which is to be tested and a further conduit connects the fitting through a first valve to a location within the liquid chamber, and through a second valve with the interior of the vessel. The fitting is connected to a system to be tested, and the first valve is closed. The system is pressurized to fill the conduit means and allow gas entering the conduit means to pass through the second valve into the interior of the vessel. The second valve is enclosed, thus isolating the vessel from the system. After a pause to allow leakage in the system to lower the pressure, the first valve is open and if gas bubbles in the liquid, then leakage has occurred.

  • Patent number: 4445677
Abstract: An apparatus for clamping a plastic fitting against a plastic pipe and for holding them together with a predetermined clamping force includes a carriage and guide means for guiding the carriage in vertical motion above a fixed pipe support portion. A frame portion is fixed with respect to the pipe support portion, and first and second toggle links are pivoted to the carriage, to the frame portion and to each other in such a way that the links can achieve an aligned position in which the carriage is in its lowermost location. A mechanical interference means is provided to prevent the toggle links from going significantly past the dead center position represented by the alignment. Means are connected to the carriage for holding the plastic fitting, and lever means are provided for rotating one of the toggle links.
